Please disregard, this question no longer applies. New thread started here: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/59911/upgrrade-rocket-sigs-bigfoot-airmotiv
I have a bit of a dilemma and thought I'd ask the Emotiva enthusiasts and experts here.
I am currently driving a pair of Rocket RS850 Signautres with an Emotiva RPA-2 (older reference amp from 2008). We are in the middle of a home remodel and I'm in the need to replace my Rockets with something that has a smaller footprint. While I really love these speakers, they're going on 14 years and I think I'm ready for a change, albeit a likely downgrade.
So I've been looking at the T-Series speakers from Emotiva. While I'd love to have the T2+, that doesn't solve the footprint problem. So now I'm looking at either a T-Zero or T1+. I'm normally a 2-channel (no sub) guy when it comes to music, but these days I'm finding it doesn't hurt me to down size to the point that I don't mind running a sub with music. I've actually been doing that more and have been enjoying it, although more for subtly than trying to rattle the walls and furniture. I primarily listen to rock/classic rock, folk/acoustic rock, jazz, classical, and that's really about it. I'm really leaning toward the T-Zero for their size. I realize they aren't full range speakers. My usage these days in my main room is also 70/30 HT/music, although that 30% is still important to me.
So my question then, am I doing an injustice to my RPA-2 if I go with the T-Zero? I would think not being that I've always felt dedicated amplification isn't just about playing loud, but that speakers remain "alive" throughout the volume spectrum, even at lower volume level listening, which I tend to do frequently. But I also can't seem to get the stigma out of my head that I'm gonna be using what I consider a quality amp to drive $400 speakers. Don't get me wrong, I'm a long-time user of Emotiva gear and realize that their product perform well above their price-points, but it's just that I can't remember the last time I paid less than $2k for a pair of mains.
In any case, I could go with the T1+, but if the T-Zero with a sub can still be a worthy contender, then I'd much rather go that route for the smallest footprint.
Note that as part of this change, I'll also be replacing my center with the C2+, and the rest of my surround/effect channels with 2 pairs of Airmotiv A1 Atmos and an Airmotiv E2+ surrounds.
Thoughts?
