Best bet would be to order a Dell desktop you can customize and basically spec it out to a gaming pc spec. We are also looking for a new PC and the specs I want are basically a gaming PC, but I really am not a fan of all of the glowing LED lights etc.

I used to build my own too, but we’re going by recommendations for the software we’re using, I don’t want to do the research to get it quiet, and I don’t need another project (though I do have a couple cool old cases that would be perfect). There’s a link in the OP with a recommended model and specs..

Kinda odd that you need a "gaming type pc" to use as an NVR. What software are you using? Seems like you have a rack, so any DIY server case with appropriate hardware should do. My Unraid server is built around a Ryzen 1800x, 32GB RAM, 54TB storage, 1TB SSD cache with an Nvidia Quadro P2000. It's on 24/7, runs various dockers and VMs; has been rock solid for the last 5 years. For a year or so it ran Ubiquiti's Protect NVR as a docker with 4 cameras.

When I was looking for a case to fit in a rack, I was going to go with a Rosewell; for the money, it was hard to beat: amzn.to/3Mv4V7rI ended up with a Meshify 2 XL tower from Fractal... potential for 16 drive bays... plenty of room for growth: amzn.to/3zj87A6

It's on 24/7, runs various dockers and VMs; has been rock solid for the last 5 years. For a year or so it ran Ubiquiti's Protect NVR as a docker with 4 cameras. The video processing, encoding, and recording for 12 to 16 HD, 5MP, and 4K cameras is pretty intensive, our current machine can do it, but it struggles and gets noisy as the fans try to keep it cool. The specs of the machine above are recommended by those who use this software successfully, with 16 to 24 cameras, the graphics card gets quite a workout (this one has a Ryzen 5800 & NVidia 3060), the software is called AgentDVR. When I said ‘server rack’, it’s not a rack in the true sense, it’s an 8’ tall cabinet I designed with the house to be our network center. All our network, telephone, and coax cabling home runs there, it houses our Unify switches, NAS, DirecTV DVR/Tuner, etc. This box will actually sit on a shelf and does not mount in a rack, I just don’t have the height to handle a tower. If I can’t find an suitable ‘desktop’ form factor, we’ll probably just turn this one on its side, which HP says is OK. I’d just prefer something designed to sit that way. Your case looks great, but we have lots of projects and just want to buy a more suitable replacement for our current unit. Moving our 10 or 12 TB drive over, getting it setup in place, reinstalling and configuring the software will take enough time. This is really my wife’s project, I just have to make sure everything fits and get it setup in place, and as it’s close to my workspace I want it to be quiet (water cooling will help).

Gotcha... I never had the need for so many cameras; however, I understand the demands 4K would put on a system. Although time consuming, it sounds like a fun project... good luck and keep us posted.

So not finding any ‘desktop’ formats we went for the HP Omen (linked above), bought yesterday, arrived today, while we were setting it up the power went out. We’re running on generator, having beers in the driveway, and throwing the ball for the dog. Life is still good! 🍻🐕
