What is required to use this jack? The manual says an active repeater, but all the active repeaters I have seen use an IR transmitter. Can I replace the IR transmitter with a 3.5 mm 2-wire cable and plug it into the back of the MC1? If not does anyone where the IR receiver is located on the front of the MC1 so I can properly position the IR transmitter over the receiver?

If not does anyone where the IR receiver is located on the front of the MC1 so I can properly position the IR transmitter over the receiver? This is the note from the manual: Use the IR Remote Input to connect the signal from an external IR remote control repeater or hub. Note: This input requires an active signal from an IR repeater or hub.
From this I'd expect you can use a 3.5mm mono cable from something like a Harmony Hub (which is what I've done with the XMC-1 and now RMC-1), or the IR Out from another device. This note from the RMC-1 manual may clarify what other options you have -- if they're the same -- but it sounds like a passive IR sensor wouldn't be able to plug directly in (I haven't tried that). Note: The IR In port on the RMC-1 must be connected to a powered IR detector - or “eye”. (Appropriate IR detectors include a small circuitry module that provides a buffered output signal. In many cases, you will connect the RMC-1 to the output which is intended for connection to an IR “flasher” or “repeater”.)

I also do not have the same pre/pro but I use the IR repeater in my system, the 3.5mm jacks where you would plug iun the IR sensor's you simply use a mono 3.5mm cable.
Cheers, Chad

I got the repeater to work using one of the the IR transmitters that came with the repeater, but I could not get it to work using a mono 3.5 mm cable to the IR In Jack on the MC1.
All the lights on the repeater come on with the mono cable so there seems to some type of connection between the repeater and the MC1 but no control. Any other ideas? Maybe a 3 wire cable?

I have never had a problem with a mono / 2 wire 3.5 mm cable (for either IR or Trigger), the only time I ever did have a problem was long ago when I tried a stereo cable (though I hear some use stereo without issue). Unless you think you could have a bad cable, I would look elsewhere. At this point it's probably worth calling Emotiva to see if they can help with your combination of gear.

Any update on this? I’ve tried both mono (2 conductor) and stereo (3 conductor) cables and neither work with the MC1, but work fine with IR inputs on other components. Often there is a setting to enable this sort of feature but don’t see one in the setup menu. Thanks.
