I know the usual advice.. check ebay, kijiji, HiFiShark, CanuckAudioMart (I am in Canada)... but I am not finding recent examples of the gear I am thinking of getting rid of (Polk RtiA9, Emotiva C2+) What do you do when no one has sold similar gear... ever, or in recent history?

Prices of everything is going up. C2+ is now $499. $350-399 or take offers? Can't find comparables? That should mean any buyer looking can't either, offer it for what you would pay.

Agreed with the above posters. I sold my RtiA9s 8 years ago for $450 which was about 1/2 of MSRP.
Great speakers that really open up with good power. GLWS Scott

Successful selling is all about being honest and realistic about what you have and how much you want for it. Matters not if it’s an amplifier or a snowblower. Only you can decide on an individual item, what the final price will be that your happy with. Dreamers fail to sell successfully.

About all you can do is to check similar gear - as close as you can get to what you have. A good starting point is to decide up-front whether "you just want to get whatever you can as soon as possible" or "you're willing to wait a while to get a reasonable return". Deciding which way you feel ahead of time will help you avoid becoming frustrated later. A major piece of advice is that, especially with gear that isn't often seen, you may have to wait a while to sell. But, if you set a low starting price on an auction, and only one person is interested, you could end up selling at your starting price. You can ALWAYS start a bit high... and then re-list later if you don't get your minimum bid... I would also suggest setting a reasonable starting bid and NOT setting a reserve. (A reserve bid is really just a starting bid that people have to go through extra annoyance to guess.) Also note that, at least on eBay, you often get to re-list unsold items for free, or don't have to pay listing fees on items that don't sell. And, of course, ALWAYS be as honest as possible on your listing... And, if there is any doubt whatsoever about condition, include lots of pictures, and actually SAY something in the description like: "I think it looks like it's in nice shape... but look carefully at all the pictures before you bid." Another thing to keep in mind is that shipping costs have risen SHARPLY - thanks to "fuel surcharges" and such. (As a seller you always have to keep in mind that the customer doesn't see what you get - they see what they have to pay.) There's another thing worth noting... especially on high-dollar used items. In the past, if you sell something used, for less than you paid for it, it was exempt from sales tax. But now, in at least some states, if someone buys a used item on eBay, or another online service, THEY have to pay local sales tax. No more exemption for used items purchased in those states... regardless of where the seller resides... This is based on the state where the BUYER lives... they get charged the tax... and many don't know about it yet. So, on some sales, on places like eBay, your customer will be surprised to see sales tax added to their purchase price, based on where they live. I don't have a list... it only applies to some states... and when and if it goes into effect, or is already in effect, varies by state... (California is a definite yes...) I know the usual advice.. check ebay, kijiji, HiFiShark, CanuckAudioMart (I am in Canada)... but I am not finding recent examples of the gear I am thinking of getting rid of (Polk RtiA9, Emotiva C2+) What do you do when no one has sold similar gear... ever, or in recent history? I am not yet ready to sell it... still preparing for that... and I was planning to sell locally only, sorry (unless you're in Ottawa or nearby)

This reminds me - I need to look into selling price for my Oppo 105....very low hours, perfect condition, and would ship in factory box. I just don't use it any more.

I have forgotten about this thread even though I started it LOL. The reason being my spouse told me I can keep my old gear until we move into our new house and see if we might be able to find a place for it ... And this is why I love my spouse

And this is why I love my spouse We moved recently after downsizing substantially. I sold my dedicated theater room with all the gear (all of it!) and my spouse agreed I can leverage our bonus room in our new townhome to build another HT. Once the summer is over I will get some wiring done (can't get into the attic now as it's a gazillion degrees up there).

Hemster, what brands are you considering? Thinking of class-D amps but have not decided on any brands for that or processor. What brands would you recommend?

Not sure, I suppose it would have to do with the number of channels. The fewer the channels, the higher quality the equipment imo. Resolution, etc may be more audible with 2 channels than 16.

I'm in the market. I haven't really given it much thought, but I'm seeing people asking ~$900-$1100 for them. I can't find what they have sold for so far. Mark
