I’ve been cleaning some LP’s and have really noticed some of the under appropriated art work of the LP itself. Yes, there’s always been some really huge winners when it came to the covers and sleeves but the art form of the media itself has just never been appreciated most ot the time. I’d like to reserve this thread for just such artwork. I’d love to see all the different artwork that I may never have seen due to my lack of interest in the band or just hadn’t gotten to yet. I’ll start with this one which inspired my post. From the disc of Confessin’ the Blues Volume II ITS original blues masterpieces hand picked and curated in collaboration with The Rolling Stones

How did you upload that image? I am trying to share an image but the forum has not allowed me to do that for about a week now...

If EVER, I can recall the LP I have that was pressed in an odd color by design, along with a funky spindle label I’ll post it. That’s also provided Pro Boards allocates additional attachment storage. Right now my records are stored in boxes and have been retired since 1995

I would guess that by the time most people take the plastic off the album and have appreciated the album artwork, they are simply ready to get down to business and play the record with little concern to that paper label that goes around the spindle. That being said, I can appreciate what you are saying. Interesting to note those spindle labels are for the most part the same physical size as a cd. In all of those years I spent playing records, I rarely if ever, recall the spindle label garnering much attention. I would refer to that big album cover to identify which groove I wanted to stick the needle into!

Yes, the artwork on the cover and back always get attention buy it takes a certain amount of detail to get the LP center just right. 🎶🎶🎶🎶

1969 - Blind Faith = Eric Clapton + Steve Winwood - Yes, I know that this is album COVER art, and not record label art, but it's still COOL!

Ha Ha ( always got a kick out of this cover) Also one of my first early records bought when I was something like an 8th grader me thinks!) I still have it, along with a studio Joplin album that I ended up not liking

I was working at the A&P as a bag boy, and the corner drug store had a record bin. At the time, I'd never heard of Janis Joplin, but liked the cover artwork enough that I bought the album with change from my bag boy tips. Rode the album home on my coaster brake bike and dropped it onto the family console record player. Mom came running in and asked what was that noise! But I rather liked it...
Later on, I got a job at Radio Shack in the same shopping center, and used my employee discount to buy a stereo (BSR turntable, Radio Shack receiver, and Radio Shack speakers (one driver each). Kept the same stereo until about my Junior year in college when money I earned working at the local bicycle shop allowed me to buy a Montgomery Wards receiver and some bigger speakers (JBL L30? - an 8-inch, 2-way in an oak cabinet, orange grille, and the hottest, peakiest tiny cone tweeter you could imagine).
Then I heard the AR11 and appreciated the bass extension (sealed box), smooth frequency response (3-way drivers), and clean treble (dome tweeter). The next step, for me was the Dahlquist DQ-10a, and I never looked back!
Many albums have come and gone, but I still remember Big Brother and the Holding Company fondly!

Great LP! I can’t swing a sonic cleaner. I’m currently cleaning my whole collection with a Okinawa Nikki vacuumed cleaner. I’ve been cleaning in alphabetical order so only God knows when I’ll get to Yes. 🥲 I may just clean that one out of order. And then there’s the rest of my Yes collection. It may be hazardous to skip forward I think! LOL Edit; I did start with “A”’s and skipped the Beatles, so I’m up to Brubeck. Time for a Snickers commercial as I’m “Not going anywhere for awhile?”
