My XPA-3 which is a gen 1 or 2 (don't know which) powers on and all the lights turn blue, but it is not driving my speakers. This has just happened this week. Is there something I can inspect like maybe a fuse? It is way out of warranty and I would hate to lose it. I was using the pre-outs from an HK AVR-7200 and I thought maybe the problem was with the 7200. I connected it to a brand new Marantz AVR via pre-outs and still nothing.

Could be fuses. I had a similar problem with my XPA-5 gen 1 a few years ago. Lights worked but no sound. I think there are three fuses, two smaller ones and a larger one. The small ones were replaced and the system worked. I think you can see the fuses if you open the amp up. i don't remember exactly where they were.

My S/N is 350813v011104. I'm the original owner and I know I've had it for at least 10 yrs. I have the original box and I think my receipt may be in that box. I know I have the receipt. I may have a gen 1. I joined here in 2008 which may be when I bought it. I think I may have paid $699 for this beast which makes me want to save it even more.

Two of the three fuses are blown. I found another thread about an XPA-5 needing fuses and they are the same fuses. So I followed the Amazon link in that thread and placed an order.

I don't remember if the XPA gen 1 and 2 uses rail fuses. Been too long, but possible. If is fuses. Hopefully that is all that it is but fuses open for a reason besides over current draw. Fingers crossed nothing serious.

Limulus found '2 of 3 fuses blown'.... 3 fuses is either one per module OR maybe a Plus fuse / Minus fuse on the DC rails AND a main AC power fuse? I'd be curious as to fuse values.......A pair of one value popped and a 3rd fuse which was OK of another? That'd be my guess! But maybe......

These are the fuses www.amazon.com/dp/B06VTJDY16?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details. I replaced them and it works now. However, in my rush to get the heavy amp back into the rack I damaged the center RCA jack on the back. The cable was still plugged in and I turned the am sideways and the cable was stretched to it's limit. That ripped the jack out of the back of the amp. I have to say this is a very flimsy jack. Now I don't have a center channel.

Now I don't have a center channel. Your XPA-5 has an XLR input for all 5 channels. So just order RCA to XLR cables for all five channels and you'll have your center channel back as well as a much more solid connection. Monoprice has some, link below. Oh yeah, don't forget to flip the small switch on all of the inputs to "Balanced". www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=4777

They are way more robust and will not break unlike the stock original RCA connectors.

Simply not abusing is good enough. In 40+ years I've yet to 'break' an RCA connector...... Balanced may provide some benefit, but maybe not. And should be louder for any given VolCon setting.....by 6db..... And if you suspend the amp by a Balanced connection, the next noise you hear will be very expensive...

Plus it's an XPA-3 so I only need three cables $13ea from Monoprice/Amazon

And, if it's the case. playing too loud blows fuses, speakers and eardrums. Be careful!

I popped my Magnepan Fuses......1 1/2 amp in my MG-1 with 'only' 200 8-ohm watts....a little more at the lower panel impedance.
No problem with the 4 amp in my MG1.6qr panels.......And I would not hesitate to remove the fuse and simply jumper out that set of connections
which according to 'Maggie Lore' helps the sound out a little....no telling how many connections I could delete if I put my brain cell to it.
