Most people achieved college degrees in their relative youth. A degree is merely a first step in entering a profession that requires continuous invention, production, and, yes, learning. The education one receives in the years following the degree far overshadows the piece of paper. I earned a B.E. with a major in electrical engineering and a minor in mathematics, but I worked as a motor and control engineer and manager for 41 years.

I was a lousy student in general all the way up through high school, with exceptions for science, music, arts and some shops. If it wasn’t for being in a band and doing lighting in the theatre, I doubt I would have made it through high school. But everything clicked in college, I did great and finally understood how to use things I learned in a more practical way, and I got good grades. For me the key was starting in a junior college (they call them community now), tried many things and liked most of them, but figured out what I liked best (and was good at), also learned that I couldn’t do it all.

I've got a BS in Biotech which I guess has been helpful in my career in that it "got me in the door". Since college, my most valuable education and training has been on the job and self taught.
