I was going through the Audiophiliac podcasts and came across this one that really struck me, "Audiophiles: How's your hearing?" —maybe because my girlfriend has profound hearing loss (effectively deaf) and uses a hearing aide on one ear (Phonak) and a cochlear implant on the other side. Anyway, Steve recommended this short video which is truly inspirational and a bit of a tribute to Art Dudley too!

That’s a tough one….my brother is in the same boat. Now however, he has a cochlear for both ears after the hearing in the other was rapidly leaving him. I have not asked him of late what he can make of music, but his phone communication is somehow excellent. If you didn’t know about his implants you wouldn’t know he has a problem

My girlfriend seems to enjoy music (certain tones and voices grate her the wrong way though), and she says music sounds musical now after having the cochlear for several years. She will probably need to get a cochlear on the other side someday, but the hearing aid, she says, gives her more bass frequencies than her cochlear. That could be more a matter of training your brain with what you've got. You should ask your brother about it sometime. Thanks for sharing.
