My A5 has been flawless for 8 months. Has always been cool to the touch even when running at reference level which I don't do often. Only used for movies and gaming.
Today while gaming I got the famous protection mode with all 5 red lights, no where near reference and only on for about 30 minutes.
Powered off and back on and reset with no issues.
Few hours later while starting a movie same thing. Reset and watched the entire movie with no problems.
What should I be checking? Seems odd that I would all of a sudden have a fault outside the amp? Never had this happen before.

Never had this happen before. I’d probably start with all the speaker connections, remove, inspect, reinstall making sure no wires or strands are loose. Maybe do the same with the interconnects. How’s your voltage? Any storms or anything that could affect your power? Does the amp feel warm or hot when it shuts down?

Red lights on all five channels? That could indicate a global issue, meaning, inside the amp. Seems odd for it to be something related to one or two speakers if all five are lit up, so it's gotta be something inside.
Disconnect all speakers but leave the inputs from the processor connected and use a high volume level like you would for a movie or game, see what happens, if anything.

The amplifier that goes into protection like that I agree is inside and not speaker connections, but worth a look anyway, you're there anyway. But most likely something drifting out of spec maybe like DC offset or even quiescent bias. Nothing is perfect after all. Fully isolate the amplifier from all audio connections, just leave AC power connected, and leave the power amplifier for a time to see if the red light error comes up again. If so, definitely that is something inside. If you leave all else off except power and no red lights, connect the line inputs, maybe one at a time and run for a bit and see if maybe one channel goes into protection, if all channels still go into protection, it is still most likely something inside. If no reds lights with line input connect the next one and do again and so on. We are proving it is happening in the amplifier and not external factor tripping protection....the red lights. If all line inputs connected and no red lights. Connect one speaker output and do the same thing, if all channels go red it is inside the amplifier, if only the one goes red trouble shoot that channel, by the way same for the line input I forgot to stipulate. The idea is to eliminate as much as you can whether it is outside the amplifier causing the issue or amplifier itself. Also if not already mentioned, is the amplifier HOT? The amplifier has 2 fans that go on to keep air moving around inside. Also how much room around amplifier is there for air to circulate? Yeah BAS-X runs pretty cool, but if you are blocking the path of which the hot air may leave, you could be overheating amplifier triggering protection as well. Was not mentioned in your post. Also some pictures are helpful of the setup as well as wiring images showing connections. These are a few steps, if these don't narrow it down, please contact Emotiva Audio Support for next steps. emotiva.com/pages/service-repair-inquiry, or give a call at 1-615-790-6754 to get support that way. I hope it is an easy solution, BAS-X is a well designed amplifier family. I am sure you will find the solution, or Emotiva Audio will take great care of you. Please let us know how you get along with finding the solution.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I'm thinking it might have been related to line voltage. I found out later a portion of our neighborhood had lost power. Odd that our power never blinked or anything, but these amps could be super sensitive to voltage. My Onkyo RZ50 nor LG OLED never missed a beat. I just watched an episode of Stranger Things near reference and not a single issue. Just for reference my amplifier is in open air and not in a rack. I've never heard the fans kick on and always super cool to the touch.
