Hello All,
Well, yet another line of Subs. I don't get it. Presumably they are improving which each new launch but why so often?
I am an owner on the discontinued S12, and now wonder if its not up the scratch vs their new line up
Having said that, my second Sub is a SVS PB300 and I much prefer it to the S12
Cheers Howe

Also they don’t have to worry about out of warranty support because the products are discontinued.

Emotiva is no different in introducing new products as often as they deem necessary for their business. It never invalidates what you already have. I enjoy my SVS SB13 Ultra and PB1000, so introduce away anybody. I am happy where I am.

I also have a pair of SVS SB12 subs and feel the do a great job and have no plans to change them. If anything, it seems like standards are out of control and the hobby is a lot less fun than it once was

I also have a pair of SVS SB12 subs and feel the do a great job and have no plans to change them. If anything, it seems like standards are out of control and the hobby is a lot less fun than it once was Funny you say it is getting crazy out here with this audio gear, and I am on the same page... Subs, I will stick with my SVS SB3000's, and just ordered one of their non-Pro SB1000's for my little bedroom setup along with one of the Emotiva's Airmotiv units, the one for $269, I think the SE12. I will keep both, going to have a shootout in the bedroom, LOL! Back to the gear, I went totally backwards, I picked up a used pair of Zu Omen Dirty Weekends, circa 2017, and they screwed up my entire outlook on audio in general. I have had tens of thousands of dollars of audio gear through here, and none of it moved me the way these Zu speakers did. I wanted better out of them, and read about pairing these up with vintage gear, mainly Sansui, late 60's and early 70's models. I found a Sansui 2000 right up the road from me, that is in the bedroom with the Zu Omen speakers. For the living room, listening to it right now, my local crystal clear FM Classic Rock station, over a Sansui 4000 stereo receiver, which I also found locally. Both units cost me $200 each, and work pretty much flawlessly for 50 year old plus gear. These Sansui units do what Emotiva, PS Audio, Parasound, Denafrips, XTZ, Cambridge, Denon, etc., could not do, at least with these Zu speakers. Oh, I sold all of that gear and picked up a new pair of Zu DW6 Supremes for the living room, along with a new TT. I kept the pair of SB3000 subs. They are not going anywhere.

Hi localnet - Y’all please forgive me for (temporarily) hijacking this thread, but… I see a LOT of folks who are crazy about their Zu speakers. What do Zus do that other speakers don’t?

Hi localnet - Y’all please forgive me for (temporarily) hijacking this thread, but… I see a LOT of folks who are crazy about their Zu speakers. What do Zus do that other speakers don’t? Zu is a solid American company. The 10" full range (well almost) driver is uniquely theirs. They use this same 10"er in various size enclosures. The 10" is supplemented by a tweeter usually without crossovers. The tweeters used have changed over the years. I have a pair of Zu Essence which use an tang bang type of tweeter (Essence long discontinued). I think their present tweeters are silk dome. They are high efficient speakers in the old tradition. They are a small company, not influenced by world players pushing to maximize profits. Here is their philosophy statement - www.zuaudio.com/philosophy

Hi localnet - Y’all please forgive me for (temporarily) hijacking this thread, but… I see a LOT of folks who are crazy about their Zu speakers. What do Zus do that other speakers don’t? In my experience, they handle the details in a way that I have not heard other speakers capable of doing. It is difficult to explain, they make listening to music fun, where before I was listening to the gear, if you know what I mean. With the Sansui receivers, I own two, a 2000 in my bedroom with the Zu Omen DW's and a 4000 in the living room with my DW6 Supremes, both of these speakers disappear in the room, the soundstage is huge, enveloping in a way. And with the right tracks, usually a good live recording, they become three dimensional. I do have the two SVS SB3000 subs in the mix too (Living Room), which really helps in the overall SQ in this larger area. I would say in a small listening room, a sub is really not required. Then the detail, it is crisp and so smooth in its delivery, very fluid is the best way to describe, not sterile or harsh. The bass is quite impressive, these speakers go low with the Sansui units, not so much with modern gear, not the way the Sansui's do, as they really dig deep. I have had nothing through here gear wise that can do what these Sansui units can pull off. Then the icing on the cake, the way they present the midrange with the Sansui units, it is incredibly airy and very tube sounding, the speakers put you in the studio, a very live feeling to them, like you are there. It is very cool. The phono stage, it takes everything to another level, vinyl has never sounded so good to my ears. I don't know what Sansui did back in the day, but they sure nailed it, especially with these Zu speakers, they are made for each other. I wish I could have found this sound in all of the gear I have had through the house... I bought both of these Sansui units locally for $200 a pop... Kicking self. And on edit: Listening volumes, I now rarely feel the need, or have the desire to turn the volume up. The Zu/Sansui combo is simply that good. My now normal listening levels are in the 60-70db range at my seating position. The detail is there, the bass is there, it is all there, with so much clarity... I can sit and listen for hours and never even think of the gear and or what it is doing. It is not Hi-Fi, it is now FUN-Fi!

My latest experience with PowerSoundAudio has me convinced that I have taken several steps forward and then some, in the Subwoofer Universe. As for Velodyne, they do still exist, not sure what the brand name has morphed into but they do appear to still be manufacturing subwoofers. www.velodyneacoustics.com/en/products/

If the S12 isn't performing or up to the task, I would consider another PB3000 and sell the S12.

My latest experience with PowerSoundAudio has me convinced that I have taken several steps forward and then some, in the Subwoofer Universe. As for Velodyne, they do still exist, not sure what the brand name has morphed into but they do appear to still be manufacturing subwoofers. www.velodyneacoustics.com/en/products/[br The Velodyne “name” re-exists, but the original California Based company run by Bruce Hall, no longer exist that was in California and had moved off to Germany years ago, And no longer supports the HGS series, unfortunately and did not even before they re-emerged overseas. No longer a practical solution in the United States. .
