My RMC-1 does everything that I need it to do so I don’t “need” a G4 processor. That being said at the price point that Emotiva is letting these get traded in for I will be getting a G4 unit. It’s too good of a deal just to get the new hardware and be 5 year more recent of a unit. You'll get the warranty as you mentioned, but typically better surround processing (vs. 2 channel) as those chips just always get better with time. The risk is stability/more issues as we've all seen Emo's track record with new processors.

1) Will gen4 get DLBC from the start? now i use minidsp hd for subs and would like to have single audio processor. 2) Is it possible to order "Gen4 upgrade kit" and install it by myself? i've already upgraded my XPA DR1 to DR2 with kits sold me by Emotiva. There is problem with Emotiva service in our country (

Please see Page 1 of this thread for more info and links to even more info.

I’m not updating my RMC software until there is solid feedback that it’s better than what I have today and stable. Not switching / paying for another processor G4 or any other until it’s proven to work and is stable. Will need to reassess next year on where to spend hard earned cash when I have to make that choice

IF you don't have any warranty left on your unit you are sending in, you will get a 1 year warranty. IF you have anything over a year warranty left on the unit you are sending it, it will get rolled over to the brand new unit. You will get a 5-year warranty if you purchase a full price PLUS processor."

If the g4p units are designed to allow full implementation of Dirac Spatial - and there is no reason to suppose they won't be fully compliant with those requirements- then the current Dirac Live version of bass management ( incl Multiple subs) will be available together with an upgrade option to the new Spatial version. There might be expansion variations on those licensed. They will be at CEDA in Jan 2023 so we might find out more there.

DLBC would be nice especially if they are going back to OEM, they have a better shot for sure. I’m looking for improvements in sound quality and speedier operation. A better interface would be nice too but I don’t care that much about the interface as I mainly use power, input select and volume 99% of the time.

One of my main concerns is being in a race against renaming warranty time and having a product that truly works (G3 or G4) where my family can turn on and use it without my help every time. Traded XMC-1 in for the RMC-1L in 2020 and have needed warranty repair in the past 6 months, the risk factor is growing as time goes on and ability to deliver a solid G4 product or a stable G3 software release in 2023 (history not in their favor).
Question I’m struggling with us can a solid / stable product be delivered in a timeline where there’s still enough warranty to cover hardware risks for more than a year or two OR bite the bullet and go a different route now

Some worse than others. If you can live with the Anthem ARC versus Dirac debate, I'd suggest visiting the users thread over on AVS Forum and read through the last 25 pages (or so) of that thread just to see if there's anything there that would persuade you from moving in that direction. In all honesty, if you want something that's truly "family friendly" where you know that when someone other than yourself turns it on, it will just work... then the the best processor out there that's going to fit that criteria is a Marantz. I own an AV8805 and that thing (sonic comparisons aside) JUST WORKS. Speaking of sonic comparisons, if you love the sound of your RMC-1L, the AVM70 might not get you there... You'd need to step up to the AVM90 to get audio performance similar to that of the RMC-1/1L. Good luck with making a decision...

My gut is telling me to just stay the course and upgrade to Emotive G4 as the price to do so is very fair. The unknown is having a warranty hole for something that has more problems based on when those G4 units actually go to market. I truly appreciate Emotiva as a company and in general, what you get for the money

Will be interesting to see which Ti Dac they use. Also how much it will cost to go from a XMC-2 to a RMC-1l+...

I agree with Doc....if you want a "family friendly" unit, go with either a Marantz or it's sister sibling, Denon. Maybe followed by the other mainstream brands out there, Sony/Yamaha/Onkyo. None of them are gremlin free and they may not reach the sound quality level you are looking for, but I believe they will "turn on and do what they are supposed to do". You could even save some money by moving to a receiver in their lineups if you can live with RCA connections only. You would have the processing power. So far my XMC-2 has passed muster with the family and starts up fine everyday on the latest firmware. No complaints from them on 3.1 and believe me, I would hear it.

Regarding warranty vs cost, here's a thought.
Assuming no warranty left on a RMC-1 and worst case upgrade price to a RMC-1+ of $1399, that leaves a lot of dough left for out-of-warranty repair costs and shipping, also assuming a retail price will be $5499.

Have some small issues with mine but nothing that makes me really want to get rid of it. Really like Emotiva as a company because they actually communicate with their customers, build these in the US and make great bang for the buck gear. Really hoping they bring these processors to Axpona this year so I can check them out in person.

Boo Would think it would be a great place to show these off. Setup they had in the past looked amazing. Of course at that time I didn't even know about the show They usually had one of the largest rooms at Axpona with a lot of foot traffic and organized giveaways as well. The last year they had it, they had a special dinner planned at a hotel across the parking lot. Lots of raffles and food to feed a couple hundred and I won $500 in emobucks that I used towards the XMC2. Also got a T-shirt that I wear once a week 😊. Obviously Axpona is a high end audio show but emotiva always had a great presence there. It would be nice to see them again, especially Lonnie.
