Re CEC, I use CEC-Less Adapters which remove the pin for CEC so it has no chance of working. You already have the ability to "deactivate" HDMI ARC by not selecting that input. On our processors, HDMI ARC is an Input, just like any other input you can select, or not select. I agree, they should summarize in print. Ah, don't get me wrong - I'm not using any of these HDMI function - disabled on all devices. I use the Harmony Remote for everything.
But if the clicks/pops had something to do with the ARC feature on HDMI - then better have an onboard feature... that's my thinking.
Was the release date for the "new" stuff summer 2023? maybe I have to rehear the podcast.
I have all that HDMI black magic switched off in my environment as well and use harmony........its rock solid. I don't think the pops are due to that. Like I have written prev....sort the pops, BM level issues, up mix etc, and xlr expansion card and I will be really happy.

The digital is all on plug in pcbs and will be upgraded for those who upgrade their g3's to g4 status . The main board will be the analogue circuitry after the DACS so cant be swapped out .. It will be interesting to compare the original g3 sound signature with the new g4's ' Another incentive to upgrade will be the sound signature Personally I hope they offer both trade-in and upgrade options.

Personally I hope they offer both trade-in and upgrade options. I hope so too. Not so much for me, but just in general I think it's a nice option to offer. I'm happy with my XMC-2. If I weren't, I'd be posting about it. But if I could test a new unit prior to sending mine away, I could then find out if I like what I hear first, which could change my mind. I guess if they offered a trade-in program, I could just buy the new one to try first then send back whichever one I don't want. I'd think there's a way that could work for a trade-in.

The DACs in the XMC-2 are more to my liking than the XMC-1. Being able to compare would be great vs sending back what we have and waiting for the new unit to arrive.

Y’all, The RMC-1 was close for almost two years before it was released. Realistically Christmas 2023 is about as soon as I think we will see the G4 at retail. Hopefully I’m wrong. You may be wrong on the side of being too optimistic. Lots of history here of which none favors Emotiva. Emotiva tends to announce when they start development vs. when they are nearly done so if that's the case here, I don't foresee anything for at least 3 years. This seems like a promise of a new day but in the meantime enjoy our current processors that we lowered the prices on. More of a justification of lowering prices than anything. More importantly, this probably means no DLBC on my XMC-2. got it.

My XMC-2 is currently doing well and I'm happy with it, but the enticement of "new" is hard to ignore!

One thing I feel pretty sure about is that the odds of getting more than 16 channels in the current RMC-1 is basically nil. One will hope that when the G4 RMC is released they have expanded channels already available.

If a FW 3.0, 3.1 or whatever they call that thing will solve the today's issues, we will know when it's out some day, near, soon, can't say for sure, in planning etc. Depending on the capabilities, price and availability for the G4P Upgrades, I'm not sure if I wanna go through another 3 years again, like the last 3 were. I use a XLR Upgrade Board - which is for me one of the most important features. I use it with the Phono Pre and the Streamer. These Boards need to be supported, because the promise was to get up to 28 Channels. this is why the RMC-1 was 1k more expensive. So as long as there's nothing written on an official Emotiva Paper these are all just rumors.

Being a early adopter of RMC-1 I cant say there was a surprise on this latest move it is a business after all that needs new product to bring on new consumers amongst others reasons. This box has been around for 5 years and sounds great but definitely has some unfinished business. My issues have been minimal using the workarounds found by so many others.
I hope that they can close out strong on the remaining issues for the G3's and don't debut the G4's until it is ready for real action or at least prepare to divert all resources for quick fixes and that will hopefully calm the natives.
One last thought I am curious the anticipated downtime from receipt to tear down to rebuild ,testing and shipping back out!

The new product sounds great...just like the last generation sounded. It has features that Emotiva told us we didn't need and supports things that the last generation was built to support. Sorry for sounding jaded, but this announcement is a slap in the face to the people who fell for this marketing BS the last time. 10x processing power, the RMC platform was supposed to be built on a platform that could handle future needs. Until recently there was talk of an updated HDMI board to support 2.1 and 8K..now that is not possible??? I get it you need to release new product, but the current flagship product is still half baked. The excuse we heard was that you needed to prioritize development work..well, I guess we know where it was allocated, on new, not current stuff. In my case, the only way to get a functional product was purchasing an expensive HDMI switch. I cannot fork over a large chunk of cash again on a bet that it "might" be better and that it will work out of the box....and if it doesn't work, it will be fixed quickly. As I said in a previous post, I will be sitting on my hands, waiting and watching. Yep,msame ol schiitt, different day. Been bit twice! It won’t be trice!

Question for Emotiva: will the new main audio board be an optional upgrade For G3? It does sound a little vague, Lonnie seems to say it’s included, Dan says no. Does one hand know what the other is doing?

I’m not surprised by the variety of reactions, and feel that whether you greet this news with excitement, caution, disappointment, cynicism, or anger, they’re all pretty legitimate. There have been things hinted at, stated, implied, and promised, and depending on how your system performs, or what feature you’re waiting for, your patience will vary. We all have different needs, situations, and tolerance for what we’ve personally experienced.
Although there is certainly some disappointment that it will probably be at least another year for features I would personally use — DLBC, updated Dolby / DTS code, HDMI 2.1 (better switching) — my overall take on this announcement is positive. I say this because at some point there is great value in coming to the realization that the course you’re on isn’t getting you where you want to be, maybe even admitting that you might have made a decision that isn’t working out the way you’d hoped. There’s a time to start a new path, and this seems like a reasonable decision to me.
I also know some of us have been through this before, for me starting about ten years ago with a UMC-1 and already the hope that the dreamy XMC-1 was on the way. Fast forward though missed targets, changes in DRC, price increases, and a whole new surround format (Atmos) coming out as the XMC-1 is finally released. Then again for the G3P, and now the G4P … I guess I’ve had one of each generation at this point (and others have been here much longer than I).
As many of you have wanted one feature or another, I’ve wanted DLBC, probably the least encouraging of the planned features (though the channel boards have been quiet too). So we each need to judge what product can give us the features and performance that we want, need, and can afford. I’ll be honest and say I’ve been watching the Marantz AV10, it’s what I’ll be judging the G4P against (though it’s more than double the cost of an XMC-2, I still consider it’s price ‘reasonable’). To be clear though, I am generally happy with my RMC-1, and save DLBC (and eventually HDMI 2.1), could live with it for some time — but when the time comes I may not be as patient (we’re all getting older).
Which leads back to why this is the right thing to do. In technology, five years is a long time, and if other issues are making your previous choice less and less attractive, it’s a good opportunity to bump your capabilities at the same time you deliver features long overdue. As we know, it’s much easier said than done, some of you know what chipsets they might use, and whether it should speed development time. Hopefully someone in house or on contract has demonstrated the ability to develop for this environment. I have to believe five year better CPU, chipsets, memory, OS, ‘tech’, etc is a good thing — if it can be easily made to do the tasks you need.
… if you don’t agree go back to the first sentence 🙂

It takes a big person/company to realise they needed to take a new course and look after their current install base with a great upgrade deal (I'm being optimistic here, no reason not to be.....lets see) in the process.

I have said previously that if Emotiva doesn’t deliver DLBC on my Xmc2, it could be the last emo product I’d ever buy. Looks like we are tracking in that direction. But hey it’s their company. We will see how many people will actually have faith in emotiva and wait several years for another expensive processor with questionable reliability.

I’ve been very happy with my XMC-2 including its function and reliability. It’s worked for me. I got a great price going from the XMC-1 and my system is fairly simple at the moment. 5.1. I will be going to Atmos in a couple years when I retire and move. 5.1.4 system. I do agree that the promised improvements for both hardware and software are taking way too long especially for those who want/need them. I know there are reasons for this and I’m sure Emotiva would want them out yesterday, but it’s still disappointing. Will I eventually replace my Emotiva processor with a new version? It all depends on price, incentives, and whether or not a mainstream processor can compete. I’ll make that decision when the time comes.

Interesting you bring up the Marantz AV10. I was surprised to see that Marantz adopted Dirac. I wonder if it will filter down throughout their Pre/Prod line. What I would like to see is a Downgrade option with my RMC-1L...let me Downgrade to the XMC-X (whatever it will be called) for no (or very low) cost. I cannot add more speakers, I'm currently at a 7.2 system and that's it. The Cathedral ceiling and room shape makes additional speakers next to impossible. I would really like DLBC, but... Basic Bass management needs to be fixed first. The last firmware update helped, but didn't fix it completely. One thing I know for sure is that there is not another multi Thousand Dollar purchase from Emotiva in the near future... Trust once broken is very hard to rebuild. I've been a "long" time fan, UMC-1, XMC-1, Upgrade HDMI board, RMC-1L. I was ready to buy a new AMP but held off because of the lack of movement on my processor. My old Outlaw 770 is still kicking! My advice to Emotiva is simple, please do the right thing. Deliver what was promised, Fix what is broken, and just be honest and transparent. If you do this it will go a long way to regaining the trust of your jaded customers. I’m not surprised by the variety of reactions, and feel that whether you greet this news with excitement, caution, disappointment, cynicism, or anger, they’re all pretty legitimate. I have a pretty simple set up and like others have mentioned using a Harmony remote and turning off all the HDMI controls seems to remove a lot of the issues others are having. I've had problems in the past and found that some of those issues were the equipment hooked to my RMC-1. I've had issues that firmware updates did fix. Over all I'm happy.
I just hope that Emotiva stands by what they sold the Gen 3 as, upgradeable. I don't know if I can hope for future proof. I know that is practically impossible in reality but the way it is still being sold on their website now gives me the impression that this should be the last pre/pro I ever need to buy.
THE PATH TO THE FUTURE Home theater technology has made rapid strides since we first introduced our XMC-1, and continues to advance at a rapid pace. Because of this, we designed the RMC-1 with three hardware accessory bays for future expansion. We plan to make a variety of expansion options and modules available (we’ll release more details about those later). The main circuitry in the RMC-1 is also fully modular, and so can be upgraded to keep up with the latest and greatest options as they become available.
I'm 52 and not the guy that has to be on the cutting edge of technology. So there is a pretty good chance that the RMC-1 will be my last pre/pro. Not because I plan to die soon, just that at 7.1.4 I don't really think I want anymore channels. A HDMI upgrade to support 8k might be something I'd be interested in down the road, might. But I'm actually pretty happy with the picture on my LG OLED77C1PUB.
Now granted my lack of enthusiasm about expanding my system further doesn't let Emotiva off the hook for the expectations they have set for all of us with the Gen 3, I think anyone who is clamoring for what was sold to us years ago is right to speak up.
I went through the UMC-1 and stayed away for years with an Onkyo pre/pro that was faultless. I decided to jump back in to bed with Emotiva knowing what I was getting into so I can't really complain. Great sound quality but it will be buggy was my expectation so I wasn't let down with what I own. Again I just hope they support the Gen 3 going into the future. Gen 4, then Gen 5, etc is to be expected. But the fact it was sold to me as fully modular and upgradable was probably the reason I came back to Emotiva.

I see part of the next generation is a new HDMI 8K board, can I just upgrade that? No. The next gen system must be done as a complete system. The current hardware does not have the capabilities to run the new components.
I guess I should have read the whole thing on the Emo website before commenting. I guess 4k is where my RMC-1 will be staying. That is kind of disappointing that I don't have the option, but again who knows if I would have ever done the upgrade if it was available.
I would think that any 8k TV would be able to upscale 4k up to 8k. Not pure, but really who knows when we'll actually start seeing any true 8k content.

Yes, even if your next TV is 8K, you could continue to use a G3P to send it a 4K signal it would then upscale. In fact I'd expect that's what most will be doing even with a 2.1 / 8K board as there will be little if any 8K material (mostly demo stuff I'd expect). As mentioned earlier, it's HDMI 2.1 that's what's most attractive part of the video upgrade, not necessarily 8K.
