$3.99 in 1967 is equivalent to $35.46 today. So today's CD prices are super cheap compared to yesterday's vinyl prices. Today's vinyl prices? Maybe about the same as '67 + inflation. Magical Mystery Tour LP @ $32.99

True for the most part, however the vinyl being produced today is noticeably superior to what was produced in 1967. On that note the value is significantly better. Just my 2¢ worth.

I'm guessing something from that will be on my earworm list for tomorrow; likely SWLABR Scott

It would be nice indeed, if there were a true equivalency chart for some of these prices between where they were, and where they are. Personally, I don’t believe such a thing exists. In this one instance, you have so many variables that affect that…… Format certainly, and inflation, plus technology all go hand in hand.

My favorite from the original Atlantic releases had to be “Wheels of fire”….a studio and live combo all wrapped up into one. After that some of the post cream releases were amazing to follow. Blind faith with ginger baker driving the band was a perfect example …… And Jack Bruce and his efforts with Billy Cobham, who could’ve dreamed of such a combination? I saw them live together, years ago, egging each other on with their intensity Then full circle fast forward to around 2005 with cream reuniting and ginger baker interviewed, talking about how they approached the Royal Albert Hall project as older musicians. That’s a must have on Blu-ray if you can find it.

That sounds about right... when I went to college in the 1970's a gallon of gas cost about 30 cents and my family bought a brand new economy car for about $2500 . (I forget what I paid for a loaf of bread but it sure wasn't $4 either.) However, of course, not all things follow that rule. For example, computers, TV sets, and tape and disc players, have all gotten continually proportionally cheaper. However, in reality, since record albums are luxury items... And they are also "something that you cannot make yourself"... Their prices are mostly determined by what people are willing to pay for them... It would be nice indeed, if there were a true equivalency chart for some of these prices between where they were, and where they are. Personally, I don’t believe such a thing exists. I'm not the world's biggest Beatles fan... But the biggest complaint I've heard about the recent Revolver reissue is that it contains a new Atmos mix... BUT the Atmos mix is available in the streaming version of the release but is NOT included on a disc in the physical release. (I read several reviews last month complaining about this and suggesting that it was "a deal breaker" for many people.)

But I've listened to the Atmos mix and it's pretty amazing the technology they used to extract the instruments and spread them out. Not gimmicky at all, in my opinion. There's a LOOONG article on this in Sound and Vision. There was some mention though that Atmos mixes for delivery to earbuds would be compressed, etc. I sure hope they don't do that!

I agree, if you’re paying for a deluxe package you should get all the mixes; though I can see selling individual ’formats’ (LP, CD) as lone products at a lower price. Having heard an excellent presentation of Sgt Pepper in Atmos, I do want to hear what Giles did on Revolver’s Atmos mix as well; Apple Music’s Atmos on TV sounds very good, I’ll have to look for it there. The Atmos SPLHCB, wasn’t on the deluxe package either, though it did include a 5.1.

youtu.be/cHCcYChN5_4….One of my favorite Cobham “shorts” Awesome! I saw him in '74 with the band around the era of the Total Eclipse album. Brecker Bros, etc. Tiny "coffee house" in Bryn Mawr, PA called The Main Point, where his drums took the whole stage and they built extensions for the horns and keyboards. I sat maybe 15ft away. After the set I walked up to look close at the drums, and there were splintered drumsticks all over the floor.

Oh Mann that’s close in 74 when he was performing at that level (you could have been injured 🤕 from one of those splinters). I also caught that 74 tour at the Capital in Portchester NY. A few years after that tour, both George Duke from that video and Cobham showed up at our local Sam Ash music 🎵 store to promote North Drums. In an upstairs classroom over the store. Nothing impressive we were hoping for happened but still memorable. I did buy a set, but only AFTER getting to play them myself at Professional Percussion in Manhattan. Years later I couldn’t wait to get rid of them for conventional traps.
