For those of you who are interested in the true High End, here is a system being presented by a friend of mine who is a dealer in New Jersey: Genesis Tribute Loudspeakers ($125,000/pair), VPI Avenger Direct turntable ($36,000; The Wand Tonearm ($4250), Hyper Sonic X4 cartridge ($18,000), Aurender N20 music server/streamer ($12,500) and EMM Labs DA2 DAC ($30,000). Amplification included Genesis Premium Platium phono stage ($24,000), VPI-Genesis Avenger phono stage ($6000), Merrill Audio Christine MX preamplifier ($28,500), and Element 116MX monoblock amplifiers ($30,000/pair). Cabling was by Genesis, power conditioning by AudioQuest and Puritan Audio Labs.

That is a very impressive array of outlandishly expensive components for sure.
I’m sure it sounds fantastic but in the 21st-century immersive audio formats from multiple channels for music rule the day. Intelligent immersive, audio trumps expensive 2 channel stereo, listening by a country mile…… Price be damned.

Not ONE room set up for anything more than 2-channel. I'd say 80% of what was being played was vinyl ... just a couple playing CD's or streaming. And the retail floor was boxes and boxes and boxes of vinyl. I went to where the Chesky Records table was supposed to be and found an array of maybe 50 high res CD's and Blu-rays scattered on a table ... no sign and nobody at the booth.

Actually in the "Library" there was an SVS 5.1 channel system set up. Part of the local Audiophile club. They were playing Top Gun Maverick in 4K on a 65" Sony OLED. The rest was 2 channel.

I think I might be afraid to clean that stylus! The amps actually seem like a bargain compared to the phono and DAC. But beautiful gear nonetheless, would love to hear it!

I missed that. I did stumble onto their room up the steps that had food and a discussion with the owner of SVS about subs. And yeah, not only 2-channel ... even some really crappy MONO!

I'm old, but I prefer 2-channel over multi-channel music any day all day. I'm through with the high-end, though I will say that I also would love to hear this setup.

Genesis are amazing speakers, though I never had the opportunity to listen to this particular model. I still own my Genesis 61's and love them even after 20+ years. For a brief few years I worked in this industry and represented Genesis, and it was a great company to be associated with. As for vinyl vs digital, its all about marketing. Lets face there is lots more money to be made selling analog gear than digital, A LOT MORE! I agree with some of the comments here for music I also prefer two channel though for several years I did implement multi-channel audio for music. Its not a matter of being old fashion for me, its just that is sounds better in the vast majority of cases.

I agree... I much prefer two-channel most of the time... but to me it's simply that I'm not all that fond of upmixed music... And very little of the music I listen to is actually released in surround (old or new)... Genesis are amazing speakers, though I never had the opportunity to listen to this particular model. On the few disc (Blu Ray Audio & SACD) I have bought where the re-masters were done in Surround mode I still prefer listening to the two channel option. And Katy bar the door, if one decides to implement DSD via multi channel. Listener will be in for some very big surprises with location of instruments coming from sorts of places that make no sense, ie drums in the back, guitars to the side. Its a jumbled mess.

Another clear example that the most money should go to the speakers.

I’m sure it sounds fantastic but in the 21st-century immersive audio formats from multiple channels for music rule the day. Intelligent immersive, audio trumps expensive 2 channel stereo, listening by a country mile…… Price be damned. Almost all of the music I listen to IS stereo music recorded in stereo. What’s getting missed here how a high fidelity surround music system can render 2 channel recordings. I have 4 different rendering modes I use for those discs depending on my mood and how they are rendered. This can’t be done with only two channels and the larger and more complex those two speakers are, the tougher it is to mate them to multi channels with music in mind. A competent center channel for “steering” the soundstage is virtually always absent from these big gourmet two channel systems.

High End is indeed as silly as it can gets. That’s what people think of equipment that is not their phones as dac, preamp, streamer plus BT powered speakers.

That one audio setup is worth more than our house, family vehicle and any other belongings we own, actually much more as those are US dollars and my belongings are in Canadian dollars hahaha
