I just picked up a Sony - UBP-X800M2 from Best Buy that is currently on sale. I need to get installed and test it out.

Today I ordered a Panasonic DP-UB420-K from Amazon (shipped and sold by them). They have it at 20% off, just under $200. A middle of the pack player, but adequate for my needs. This a very solid and capable 4K UHD-bluray player, especially for Samsung TV owners, since this player doesn’t support Dolby Vision.

Always good to get positive feedback on new purchases. My LG OLED TV does support Dolby Vision. Since it supports HDR10 and HLG, I am not overly concerned, I knew the UB420 does not support DV. I had an eye on the UB820, but spending twice as much for having DV and 7.1 analog outputs did not seem such a great deal. Even more so with Panasonic having made a point that virtually all of their BD players have the same HW and SW video professing capability. I am rather more curious to find out how it sounds with CDs for 2-ch music.

The Reavon UBR-X200 does look pretty nice, though I have no experience with them and they are pricey. I'm using an Oppo 203 and very happy with it but if I were looking right now I think I'd try the Reavon UBR-X200, it looks like a very nice top end player. reavon.store/en/accueil/4776-reavon-ubr-x200.html

More than I am willing to spend at this time on a disc player, though. Perhaps once my son is done with college too (two down, one to go 😄). For a little over a grand, the Panasonic UB9000 seems a good contender too. Like the Reavon it has a reinforced chassis, balanced output and premium DAC (they went for a ESS Sabre vs the TI Burr-Brown in the Reavon). www.crutchfield.com/p_133UB9000P/Panasonic-DP-UB9000P1K.htmlThe Panasonic page for the UB9000 is appallingly lacking of details, so I am not even bothering linking that... Sadly, the Panny still does not support SACD. Not sure if it is a royalty/license issue or just more of the good, old, crappy "not developed here" syndrome. For many it is a non-issue (including me) and one could argue that the format is more or less dead, however a flagship player should be a truly universal player.

Yes the Panasonic UB9000 is another player that would be high on my list as well. For me as well SACD would be a nice extra but not much of an issue for me, I've only tried a couple SACD discs and they were not anything special to me so I never got attracted to it.

Got the Panasonic UB420 this afternoon. Holy cow, this thing is small! The pictures online do not give you any sense of scale. I was expecting something the size of a "regular" hi-fi device.
At any rate, set it up after work, one HDMI output straight to the LG 55" OLED TV the other (audio only) to the Fusion 8100.
Tried a few minutes of the "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" Bluray, scene 4 and 5, "Poe Attack" and "Bombing Run". The upscaling from 1080p to 4k is quite good. Did not tweak any settings yet, I will spend some time on it during the long weekend.
Gave a spin also to the Tron Legacy soundtrack CD, the first two tracks. Can't say I did much critical listening, but I liked what I heard.
Not bad for $200.

By the way, if you want to splurge on a seriously yummy eye candy with your 4k HDR video chain, regardless of make and model, you got to watch this: youtu.be/njX2bu-_Vw4
