Hi everyone, I've run into an issue and am curious if other's can replicate it.
I've purchased a 2022 AppleTV. When I connect the AppleTV to my Samsung TV, I get HDR10+. When I connect the same AppleTV to my XMC-2 (HDMI 2.0 port), then connect my XMC-2 via the out port 2 to the same in port of my TV, I only receive an HDR10 signal. I fiddled with all sorts of setting, powered cycled everything, changed HDMI ports, but I cannot get HDR10+ from my AppleTV to my Samsung TV with the XMC in between. I'm on v3.1 of FW.
Are others encountering this too or is this something peculiar to my setup? I appreciate your feedback and benchmarking. cheers, Joe

I doubt it’s something unique to your setup. Now that I think of it, this came up the other day, I’ll try to find it.

You might move this over to that thread and quote that user with your question. emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/1102358/thread

I know this by testing with my Panasonic BRP and pressing the status button or the playback info button. Additionally on the Spears and Munsil HDR Benchmark bluray it would show an info box stating the player or display didn’t support the HDR format. Since 3.1 it now plays in HDR10+. I also have the new Apple TV. Prior to 3.1 the Apple TV would not have a HDR10+ option in the video settings. Once I upgraded to 3.1 it appeared. Cheers, Dave.

If you press the "1 2 3" button on the remote you'll be able to call up an info menu. If the TV is receiving an HDR10+ signal, it will say so in the on-screen pop-up. If not, it will just state HDR and/or UHD.

Just following along here because I’m interested that HDR10+ is working (even though I don’t have a Samsung TV and can’t display it). So if I understand, Topend has an TV4KG3 and maybe a Panasonic UHD player that will send HDR10+ through the G3P and display it on a Samsung TV when FW3.1 is installed? But jvr ’s TV4KG3 isn’t displaying HDR10+ with 3.1 and a Samsung TV?

Give me a couple of hours and I’ll post some photos. I suspect the OP is correct. It seems the source now detects the display is HDR10+ compatible (this wasn’t the case before fw3.1) but the display is still not receiving HDR10+.
Dave.

I have confirmed the following. My TV (a 2019 model) only ever displays HDR. I connected my BRP direct to the TV and it still displayed HRD, not HDR10+. Both the Apple TV and the BluRay Player indicate I'm now playing HDR10+. Both did not do this prior to FW3.1. It still seems that HDR10+ is passing through the XMC-2. Cheers, Dave.

So obviously you just got the TV4KG3 that shipped this month. Currently the top ‘Format’ setting shows you have selected 4K HDR10+ and are ‘forcing’ all content to that (your menus probably look brighter), if you have ‘Match Dynamic Range’ On, then most programs should play normally as they will switch to SDR for that content, but you are putting more stress on your TV and using more power when not actually streaming a show or movie. I’m unfamiliar with the second line that says ‘Use HDR10+’ as that’s not on the TV4KG2, but Enable seems like the right setting. Nothing in your pictures says to me that the sources know the TV is 10+ capable (I’d think they mean the source has 10+), but if you say this is new with 3.1, then something’s going on If your devices don’t give you HDR10+ when plugged directly to the TV then that’s where you have to start, I’m guessing there’s a setting for the TV port you’re using (on my Sony I think it’s called ‘Enhanced’). You should probably look there first, maybe another Samsung user who’s got HDR10+ working will chime in.

Thanks Dave. What do you get when you connect the AppleTV directly to the TV? Do you see HDR10+ in the info popup when playing HDR10+ video?
Another way to get the TV to display HDR10+ is to use the AppleTV+ app or Amazon's Prime Video app that resides in the TV itself.
Even though your AppleTV is set to output HDR10+ video, it does not appear that your TV is receiving this info when routed through the XMC-2..... similar to what I'm observing.

HDR10+ is Yes. I'm basing my evidence as a comparison to FW2.5 and version prior. HDR10+ was never an option on my sources until FW3.1. Dave.

I'm travelling so will connect the Apple TV direct to the TV on Friday night. The Panasonic is a reliable device, for this test. Cheers, Dave.

It looks like this is an EDID reporting issue.

AppleTV is not the best device to do such a test on. Panasonic bluray and a HDR10+ 4k disc would be the most secure way.
Yes, you can force HDR10+ in the menus but this is not the best way to configure ATV. You should set it to 4k SDR and then have match content, range and frame rate, active. This way you will display SDR with the correct colors and scale it to 4k. If any of the sources (apps) support HDR10+ then these will show up when you choose content. I don’t know how ATV handles HDR10+ but DV is forced on all content if chosen.
I would hope HDR10+ is shown on Emotiva info screen. However HDR10 is shown as HDR so it could show as HDR+.
