I have an XSP-1 gen 2 Stereo Preamplifier in a dedicated 2 channel room and a DC-1 DAC that I am considering swapping out for an XMC-1 (if I can find one). I had an XMC-1 (traded it in for an XMC-2) in another system and used it a lot for 2 channel listening, I always thought it sounded great.
Pros. Possibly better subwoofer management Dirac room correction DAC and preamp all in 1 system Tuner although I would most likely never use it Loudness compensation
Cons. No longer have a pure analog signal path Need to purchase a phono preamp
Looking for thoughts and recommendations.

A friend of mine uses an XMC-1 for his 2-channel and loves it. He started with the XMC-1 and did not move from an XSP-1, tho. YMMV

It’s a great “Stereo” preamplifier when I use it as such…..but rarely listen in that fashion these days. Not sure what’s meant by no pure analog signal path? (It certainly has that) The loudness compensation is a waste if you’ve got a sub/subs but depending on what speakers you’re running I suppose in a rare instance it could be handy. Yeah on the phono preamp if you’re so inclined. I pulled out a fistful of LP’s in 2014 for one more spin before adding the XMC ( my Sunfire TG 2 (I still have it) was one of the few high end AV preamps with a high quality built in phono stage) .(But I’m done with shellac (RIP).

I started out with an XSP-1 & XPA2 (both Gen2) to my Paradigm speakers. I was extremely satisfied with what I heard, and decided to try the XMC-1 knowing I could add it to my (simple) system using the HT BYPASS mode on the XSP-1. My TT and CD player go through the Preamp, and my Oppo, streamer and other video sources going through the XMC. I use balanced cables when possible, and I like having the option of dropping a cd and going directly from there to the preamp and amp. It sounds fantastic. I now have upgraded to the XMC-2 and I just played a cd in the oppo using the HDMI path and something was off. I put it in the cd player, hit the HT bypass button on the XSP and viola! It was satisfactory. I realized that the settings on the XMC-2 were not as I remembered (all reset to factory defaults) and now I have to go through that again. In summary, as I was trying to figure out why my subwoofer wasn’t playing in Stereo mode through the XMC I thought of your post and wanted to share that I was glad that I had the option w/ the XSP to hit a button and go back to using the preamp, keeping things simple. By the way, I miss my XMC-1. I never had a problem with it. The XMC-2 is good, but once in a while, I have to reach around the back and reset the power. Like tonight.

I absolutely *LOVE* the XMC-1. I have 4 (2 new, 2 second hand:-). Rock solid, exceptional performance. You can't go wrong with them. Shame they're no longer available as refurbished.
