As per title, focusing on comfort and "over the ears", sound quality is second but I do really appreciate the sound of the headphones I own. Those are sennheiser hd 569 and they are over the ear, but not quite large enough as I feel part of it digging into my ear and causing discomfort with long sessions.
So I need something bigger, not too expensive.

A little pricey perhaps. Do they need special headphone amps?

A little pricey perhaps. Do they need special headphone amps? They need an amp, but all of my headphone amps seem to be able to serve it adequately.

What have you already tried on? Have you posted this over at Head-Fi? That's ground zero for all things headphone... My being partial to Grado means Zip. But the most popular in the Seinnheiser might be the HD600. As for an amp? Again, what have to looked at. Tube or SS? Even some KITS are available....... Ever consider DECWARE? Expensive, true, but good for planar and dynamic. You might consider a pair of the Monoprice Planar Magnetic.....Magnepan for your EARS! www.decware.com/newsite/TABOO.htm

I don't need anything pricey, or extremely detailed, and definitely not interested if they require a dedicated amp. This is for my computer setup, I have several semi-pro audio sound cards from m-audio, focusrite, motu etc. Not willing to spend more on an amp.
Currently pretty happy with the Sennheiser wired headphones. I have two pairs, HD 449 and HD 569. The 569's sound better, but are heavier and physically hurt my ears more after 1.5 hours. The 449 are less detailed, less bass, but still have that midrange sound that I prefer with headphones. They're lighter and disappear better on my head, but still not as comfortable as I'd like.

You should consider our headphones... emotiva.com/collections/headphonesThey're dynamic headphones... but they do sound a bit like planars. They're pretty efficient - and don't need a fancy headphone amp. And, while you'll see they aren't super-light, they're big, and very comfortable. And they have a really nice soft cable that doesn't rattle or do other annoying things.

Some headphones sit partly on and not fully around it, hard to see from the pictures but it looks like the actual inside dimension is perfectly round and kind of small? If they're the same size/shape as the sennheisers I have, or bigger, they'd be an automatic win for me I think at the current price.

They are over the ear. Great reviews. Worth a shot. You can always return them.

Unfortunately, return shipping costs would make that prohibitive, I'm in Canada. This has stopped me from purchasing other items from Emotiva in the past (and other vendors too of course).

I'm in Manitoba so I feel your pain with shipping and the dollar and inflation I'm pretty much at the point of no more purchases, hard to find anything up here in Canada unless used, my headphone setup is off drop.com, I use the Sennheiser HD58X and THX AAA 789 amp and SMSL SU-8s DAC but the sale may end today drop.com/audiophile/drops

I don't use headphones very often but enjoy my PBS M4U2 when I use them. Some people's ears are bigger than others.

Thanks to DYohn and creimes for the link to drop. I took advantage of the sale yesterday and sure enough it went up again today. Bought those just in time! They look like they have a little more padding than my cheaper sennheisers and since I like the house sound of those I figured it's less risk than the Emotiva's.

I should have mentioned that these Dekoni pads add more comfort as well, I have the Hybrid Velour and they are much better than the stock pads on my HD58X, they are well worth the cost IMO drop.com/buy/drop-earpads-for-hd6xx-and-hd58x?defaultSelectionIds=942760

I just checked the link? 200$ ain't bad and if at a reduction from THAT? Better....
I don't know that Grado makes an over-ear for 200$
The PS500e is a lot more.........
I'm glad i'm 'easy' with headphones. I went to the least $$$ end of the line and am satisfied....
The ONLY thing I wish for? Removable Cable....Easy to fix or buy longer.....or shorter, for that matter......
I've done some solder repair of headphone cables and the microscopic wire ALMOST got the best of me!
