Well, it looks like I wont be selling my ERC-3 anytime soon.
While I do not use the unit, I do "check it" every month. Upon checking today (Xmas) I note that the tray door does not open, despite the display reading "open". When I press to close it indicates "close" and "loading", and then reads "UNDISK".
Anybody encounter this situation> Can someone offer a solution?
Thank you.
Happy holiday's to all.

Perhaps a broken belt. I appreciate your prompt reply. Thank you.
I welcome any other opinions, advice, etc.
Best.

I don't believe the ERC-3 uses belts with its transport. Could be wrong but thought it was all gear driven. If it were me I would remove the lid and do some preliminary visual inspection, could be a simple fix.

routlawYou're correct! No belts (that I could see). To prove I opened the unit, there are 15 phillips head screws to remove before one can even begin to access the cd tray/ Plus, I'm attaching two photos. What I did to resolve the issue was upon pressing the eject button (and the tray didn't open) I gently nudged the mechanism. That's all. Then used the open/close button numerous times without incident. routlaw, an xmas gift for you is in order. Please visit my website, pick a show or two (take your time, list is extensive(. Then send me an email at the address at my site. I shall make your music request available to you for download. halr.x10.mx/other.htmlBest. Hal Attachments:

@keithl
Happy holidays, Keith.
At your convenience, kindly post here in this thread what "undisk" means from an emotiva perspective.
Undisk was indicated on the display on my ERC 3 upon pressing the open button, the CD drawer *not* opening, and then my subsequently pressing the open/close button (on the unit, not remote) the readout indicated "close" Then, instead of the normal readout which would be "loading", it indicated "undisk". Keep in mind all the while the tray did not open or close.
Thank you, Keith.

Hi I just logged into ask about this exact situation. I bought my erc-3 on january 7, 2014 and have used it pretty much daily ever since. yesterday I started getting this UNDISK message on the screen and no cd's of any kind will play. I still have the original box and everything.
Sending this in to be repaired seems like it would be really expensive. Between the shipping and labor costs.
Does anyone know what UNDISK means and does it need to be serviced by emotiva?
thanks
Todd

I would first try what gdhal did and take the cover off, get to the mechanism, then try a bit of lube on the gear mechanism. Hopefully just old gummed-up grease causing the drawer to stick.

The infamous loading tray (can be a real bear). I had kind of the reverse problem, where the tray would develop a mind if it’s own and close unexpectedly, while loading up a disc. That resulted once, in permanently damaging a very important disc in my collection, which I replaced. Wish they would make a high end player that LOADS like my archaic SONY CD clock radio. Top loading, push open push close lid….no fancy mechanism, just a door.(then, I woke up.)

While not with an ERC-3 I have had this problem on a computer before. I just used a slim table knife to give the CD tray a little pry while pressing the open button and it opened right up. Once it was open I made sure all was clean on the tray and it worked fine afterwards.

Thanks to everyone who've contributed to this thread.
I'd still like to read from @keithl (or Emotiva staff) the meaning of "UNDISK".
Undoubtedly the display can only indicate what has been programmatically input into the chipset. The developers of the ERC3 had something in mind when that word (set of characters) was input.
As of this writing I've owned the ERC3 for soon to be 8 years, and this is the first time I ve seen the display indicate "UNDISK".
Best.

It should further be noted that "UNDISK" is, of course, completely different than when the unit is operating normally and there is no disk on the tray and the drawer is closed. In that instance, "NO DISK" is displayed.
It should also further be noted that my having previously communicated with Lonnie both on telephone and via email on previous occasions, that should this forum post go unanswered after the New Year's holiday, I shall again reach out to Lonnie and/or Emotiva tech support via telephone.
Best.

Phone or email is the best way to get an answer. I have tried three different phone numbers. Two go immediately to a busy signal. The 6157906754 answers with an automated message that the office is closed, and suggests sending an email. I have sent an email (same) to both sales and support at emotiva. I shall patiently await a response. My guess is they are closed until after New Year. However, I further note that my original post to sell my Emotiva has since been relocated to a different area of the forum. Best. Hal

Hal Granted that there may be an issue due to the Holidays, however I have never had a problem reaching someone either by phone or email. Of course I’ve never tried during Christmas season. You may also want to send Keith and/or Lonnie a PM on this forum. Keep trying…

All -
I have received a reply from Emotiva support. It reads:
Thanks for reaching out. "Undisk" basically means the same as "No Disc", or indicates a disk read error. If the transport was getting stuck mechanically, this would be likely to happen if the CD player is trying to read a disk but the disk is not actually there, for example. So nothing out of the ordinary, just a No Disk error. I hope this helps, and let me know if you need anything else.
