I have some of the gear for my home theater already. Figuring out the processor has been difficult. I have been a fan of Emotiva pretty much since their inception as a company having had an: LMC-1, UMC-1, PT-7020 and a PT-7030.
The amps I will be using so far are a PA7-350 and an original XPA-5 I bought and held onto. This will leave me one channel short of having full Atomos implementation. Getting to my question. I prefer sound quality over anything else. That has me leaning toward Emotiva. My wife has stated she doesn't like the quirkiness of Emotiva processors and would prefer something that "just works". Does anyone have experience going from a Denon AVR-X3700 or 4700 to the MC1? Does the MC1 work with any known issues? I would consider one of Emotiva's upper end processors but I believe in the next few years that 8K material will become more available and I'm not sure if Emoiva will offer an 8K upgrade path?
Finally, does the 25% off "Upgrade for life" still apply to the purchase of a new processor?
Thanks!

Yes, there will be an 8k upgrade path, it’s discussed here: The G4P ThreadThere’s a thread here on the MC-1 that would be good to find, it’s not without issues, but most seem to like it. Here it is: The MC-1 ThreadCan’t speak to the Denon other than to say D&M stuff generally works well, most report it might be a step down in sound quality.

If Emotiva didn’t offer an upgrade path to their G4P, I would have advised to pick a different brand. But, with the G4P upgrade path and the stability of my XMC2, I would see if you can get the XMC2 or RMC1 for 25% off. Also see what the upgrade cost is. If the upgrade cost + plus the cost to get it now is close to what it would cost for the G4P with the 25% off, I’d say just wait until the G4P is released and see how good it is. If the cost to buy it now and upgrade is substantially lower, then I think it’s worth buying the G3P and upgrading later. I’m advising what I would do. I have the XMC2 that I used the UFL to buy and I’m waiting to upgrade to the G4P.

It used to be you got reliability with Denon and Marantz, but as time marches forward, I am not trusting of Denon and Marantz as I once was. Typically you get the switching pretty solid. Maybe more so than the Emotiva. But reliability is not what it should be be with failing 4K UHD and 8K UHD pass-through boards. Hence why I gave up on HDMI switching. That is me of course, maybe not you. Also failing NIC cards on Marantz processors is a pain point too. I am really not liking D&M holding for what is going on with the more reachable Marantz and Denon. The stereo only Denon seems okay, and to a degree with Marantz 2 channel. Though when I was a dealer for both lately, my trust in them has drastically reduced. Had some failures that shouldn't have been on the high end 2 channel Marantz gear. Took a customer over 2 months to get his replacement.

Thank you all for the for the informative responses. I was leaning to the Denon 4700 to ensure my wife is happy but if the newer receivers are also dealing with the occasional bugs/switching issues, I think I'll stay with Emotiva. With the UFL still in effect, I may move up the processor food chain a bit. Thanks again!
