I have a sherbourn pa7 amp, but it has 1 bad channel. I want to go to a 5.1.4 setup. Should I buy a xpa-3 or xpa-5 and use the sherbourn (upgrade at a later date). Buy a xpa-9 or 11 and forget the sherbourn.

If you can use the six remaining channels on the Sherbourn without needing more, I'd run with it. I have three Sherbourns and love 'em!
It appears the Onkyo receiver has 7.2 channels. I'd use the Sherbourn for the LCR and the surrounds, with two unused channels (obviously including the dead one). And use the Onkyo to power the other four speakers, especially if they are the Atmos heights.
On the other hand, I know the Sherbourns are getting long in the tooth, so if you simply want something newer, go for it!

Any local tech who could attempt a fix IF you could get a Schematic? Part or parts should NOT be a problem unless you turned a board into charcoal....
Worth of the amp is ONE thing. Replacement cost NEW, quite another.......Your call
