Can I use an old printer cable -USB 2.0A to my laptop to USB B on the TA-1 or do I need to buy a USB 3.0 A to B cable? It's not clear from the manual what type of USB is required for the TA-1 and USB 3.0 has 5X the bandwidth of USB 2.0. So I'm not sure what I need to get the highest quality stream to the onboard DAC.

A printer cable will work fine and you certainly don't need a USB 3.0 cable; USB 2.0 will be fine. I would avoid any really old printer cables that might just be USB 1.x - just on general principles. And there is no benefit that we've ever been able to make out with "audiophile USB cables". I can't say that we've had any reports of this with the PT1/TA1... But, with some of our other DACs, we have run into issues if you use a USB cable longer than 2-3 meters. (If there are any issues they would be obvious dropouts, or the computer failing to "see" the DAC, and not subtle issues with sound quality.) If you do buy a new USB cable, Amazon Basics ones are pretty nice, and quite cheap. Of course we still have a nice one... It's quite slim and stylish - but stiff enough that it doesn't tend to get tangled or caught on things. (I think it's $7 for the 2-meter one... ) Can I use an old printer cable -USB 2.0A to my laptop to USB B on the TA-1 or do I need to buy a USB 3.0 A to B cable? Thanks for the clarification. I have one that I know is USB 2.0 from a printer that died.
