Hi Everyone, I am new around these parts.
How did I get here? A friend loaned me his Emo Stealth DC-1 and his UPA-2 amp. I was biased against them to be honest. Why, I have some nice B&K components that have served me well.
How did they stack up? Even though the B&K has lower THD (it was .005% last time it was in the repair shop), the UPA-2 was far clearer and cleaner. The bass is tighter and more present too. And, even though the B&K is rated at 200wpc and used to have that much, perhaps she is long in the tooth now. The UPA-2 is a solid, powerful little amp.
Next I took my B&K preamp out of the loop and used the DC-1 as a DAC and as a preamp. Wow, I cannot believe how much better my speakers sound. The grittiness that I thought was inherent in my speakers is gone. They are more transparent.
Long story short, I am now a poster child for Emotiva. I am listening to my CD selection and am discovering how good they sound. (Of course, there are CDs that are not sounding better.) As you might have guessed, I bought the UPA-2 off my friend and I bought a DC-1.
Happy Listening,
Soaring Bear

If you ever think of upgrading the used emotiva pa1 are a really nice upgrade and pairs beautifully with the dc1. What speakers do you use?

garbulky, I have Dahlquist M905 2-way speakers. I was planning to replace them because they are old. But, speakers costing several thousand don't sound better to me. But I will keep looking.
Thanks for the heads up on the PA1. That looks sweet.

Thanks for the heads up on the PA1. That looks sweet. From my experience newer isn't always better. If you check out my signature you'll see that I'm running a nearly full complement of 40+ year old Klipsch Heritage speakers in my home theater/media room. They sound excellent and I have no thoughts of upgrading as a result. If you're happy with the Dahlquists, you might consider keeping them. Certainly no shame in that!
