Set up, ran Emo EQ, doing some movie testing and identified a couple questions.
#1 I thought the remote was Bluetooth? It doesn't work with my cabinet door closed.
#2 What is the best sound mode for watching movies? Multi CH and Dolby Upmix kinda sound the same and both almost sound like stereo mode with dialog.
Other things I noticed so far.
* Disappointed I can't get my Chromecast remote programmed to control volume. Emotiva is on the soundbar list but none of the codes work. It is not on the AV list.
* At 52.5 volume there is a noticeable "thump" through the speakers that I am not a fan of at all.
* The sound is "Stronger" than the problematic Onkyo TX-RZ50 that it replaced but the Onkyo sounded considerably cleaner after running Dirac by comparison. I haven't yet played with the EQ enough to try and fix that.
* Build quality and weight were night & day better when compared to the Onkyo.

The REMOTE CONTROL is IR. " The intuitive menu system makes the MR1 simple to configure and operate using either the front panel controls, and the large bright blue front panel VFD display, or the included illuminated infrared remote control, and the clear concise on-screen display. The MR1 can also be controlled by most programmable universal remote controls and whole home automation systems via either infrared commands or wired commands received by its RS-232 interface." You can keep the MR1 in the cabinet and use what I have, a IR Repeater that is wired to the rear of the processor. This allows for putting an IR receiver anywhere it is convenient, which in my case is the top/middle of the tv panel frame. The repeater I like is the BAFX Products (Infrared) IR Remote Control Extender or IR Repeater Kit from Amazon. It doesn't just help with no line of sight, but its receiver "eye" is much more sensitive and receives IR signals from almost any angle and distance so even weak remotes work great. My rack is at the back of the room so I ran an extension cable to the front. But it works much better when the front IR receiver of the processor is disabled along with any setting for IR Blaster, because if these two are not disabled the processor will become confused with multiple IR signals and either not respond or respond slowly and repeatedly. Regarding Bluetooth, it's for audio devices to connect to the MR1: " 4. Bluetooth Antenna This is the antenna for the internal Bluetooth receiver in the MR1, which supports the latest Bluetooth and AptX audio standards."

I have a repeater, just disappointing the Onkyo would allow Bluetooth control but MR1 will not.
I also can't get the unit to turn off with the TV no matter how many ways I set it up. It does turn off, but then instantly turns back on every single time. However, sometimes it freezes and will not respond to any commands via remote or buttons on the front until i flip the power switch on the back to reset. So it has that going for it.

It does turn off, but then instantly turns back on every single time. CEC gets nuts often. Another device must be requesting the MR1 to turn on, or the MR1 is sensing that another device is not off, or something along those lines. Also note that CEC has limits to number of devices that can be controlled - 15 I think, and only one can be the Controller - usually the tv. If another device wants to be the controller then conflict occurs. Have fun.

Turning off CEC on a device doesn't always turn it completely off. Just ask my ATV4K and Roku Ultra, they like to mess with things so I bought a bunch of Lindy CEC-Less Adapters to completely eliminate CEC from them and other devices. Every device connected via HDMI is a suspect. Doesn't matter what it's connected to, just that it is part of the complete system. Disconnect all devices other than the MR1 connected via HDMI to the tv. If with only the tv and MR1 connected, and no other HDMI device, the MR1 mysteriously turns back on then you know it's the tv that needs a setting changed, or, the tv is simply not reporting that it's off. But if the MR1 stays off, then reconnect one HDMI device at a time until the problem occurs.

The MR1 sounds like a nice receiver but I use all three hdmi outs on my Marantz av7703. Anybody know of a good work around for needing a third hdmi out? I distribute hdmi/4k to an OLED, a PJ, and a 4k tv in the backyard

I distribute hdmi/4k to an OLED, a PJ, and a 4k tv in the backyard I'm not sure if this will work...there are multiple HDMI splitters available at Monoprice...there are a number of these...you would need to read the specs and reviews as to what each does and whether they are good or not. Just a couple: www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15260www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15379Might be worth a call to Emotiva...
