Moving to a new home, and concerned about more frequent power outages and surges. I am in the process of installing my existing EMO gear I've had for years: beloved pair-'o XPR-1's, a XPA-5, XMC-1, Europower EP4000 for the Sub, 80" TV, 8' tall GR Research Line Array Speakers, etc. I am completing installation of (5) 20A outlets, so dedicated power lines (overkill) is not a issue. The home is only 4 yrs old and has a 200A Panel, so old wiring is also not a issue.
My concern is the power outages, during one trip to the house we lost power, and it went off and on at least 20 times in a row before finally going out for a few hours. It actually tripped a few of the the GFCI breakers (they have a "Test" button) in the Fuse Panel. Brutal on electronics?
SO - questions/recommendations. Have the read the forums and lot's of typical pro's cons on Surge suppressors and conditioners.
1. Is my EMO gear OK to plug directly into dedicated but unprotected outlets? Do they have internal protection built in for outages/surges? Having the gear directly plugged into outlets is how I had it in my old home, and of course lost power, but infrequently, and never had any damage to any of the gear over many years.
2. The XPR-1's REQUIRE their own dedicated 20A outlet, no problem there, but I don't know of a 20A surge/filter solution that actually helps, or if this is necessary at all.
3. The XPA-5 and XMC-1 will also have their own outlets - XPA-5 directly to a 20A outlet, and the XMC-1 and TV to a old Monster Power AV700 with it's 1850 J protection circuit, or they could also have their own outlet.
4. The Brerhinger EP4000 was plugged into a old Furman 20 Powerport AC Power controller.
4. Have a slew of auxillary stuff - LED's, cooling fans, Fire TV Stick, etc.
Am I safe as is, and just plug all the gear into the outlets, or would a CMX-2 or two be a worthwhile addition for the XPA-5, XMC-1, and TV? Or something else to protect my gear? Want to do the installation right the first time.
