So it's my birthday, da big one, HSG@75, and just to torture myself I'm posting THIS LINK to my new work for orchestra, written mostly last year and nibbled at since. It's called "On Three" and is tonal/romantic/cinematic in scope, but feels closest to a variations on a theme type of piece. The big thing though is that in its entirety it only uses 3 pitches, D, A and Bb (hence the title). It's also in 6 sections, each one different and strictly increasing in meter, thus first in 4/4, then 5/8, 6/8.... up to 9/8.
This is not an academic exercise. It's got every emotion imaginable, melodies (yes melodies) with development, using all (?) the tricks in the trade. The link above is to my publications page where you can click on the "play" button on the left to hear it - this is a rendition generated by the NotePerformer plugin of the Sibelius notation software program - quite dynamic.
If you don't like it, you don't have to tell me, remember it's my birthday!
P.S. The remaining works on the same page have audio from an "earlier time", which is ok but no where near as good as generated by NotePerformer.

On Three was very impressive on my living room A/D/S L1290's However, it really came alive on the Linkwitz LXmini / Watson system Kudos, and a happy birthday . . .
