Saw him at a small venue in Buffalo in the late 90s; great show. Another icon has passed. Scott

I remember two of the first HiFi / audiophile music collections back in the early 70’s were produced by JBL. There were both classical and pop LPs, the latter included “If You Could Read My Mind”, it sounded great and was a very natural recording. RIP Gordon Lightfoot.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed In the maritime sailors' cathedral The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
It needs to ring 30 times now. You will be missed, sir.

That is sad news. He was such a great iconic performer during the late 60s and into the mid 70s or so. He did make it to DVD and there was a show out there recorded around 2002…..already, a shadow only of what he once was as a performer. Time was not kind to him. That being said he was an awesome influence during his prime time out there, RIP.

I got curious and revisited my Netflix rental history to figure out when I saw that performance. It was Gordon Lightfoot live in Reno Nevada recorded in 2002. We rented it in 2009. The disk is no longer available from netflix/dvd.com…… Pretty soon nothing will be available as they are closing up shop in September according to the news. That is to say the mailing of the physical disk. Streaming is not going away that being said, getting blockbusters from Netflix these days is problematic at best.

He will be sorely missed. From one of my favorites:

Gordon gave us allot of great music, and was the true story teller, composer, and arranger, and has his song If You Could Read My Mind in my top of my top 250 songs. Carefree Highway is in there too and Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I grew up with him as a kid to adulthood. I thought he would always be with us. Of course I was wrong. I am grateful for the music and stories he shared that were at times if not all about his own life. Gordon is not with us and has moved on, but his Music and Legacy is with us forever. RIP Gordon Lightfoot.
