Hello, I have a XMC-1 and a pair of passive 12 inch subs. Do I need a dedicated subwoofer Amp or can I get away with any simple amplifier and let the XMC-1 do the high/low passing? Thanks!

You don’t need a ‘specialized’ amp, any stereo amp with sufficient power can drive your pair of subs, you could also use a monoblock, if it can handle the impedance of the two subs, and yes, the XMC-1 will handle the crossover.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but I thought I would ask just to be sure.

I went ahead and purchased a Behringer KM1700 Power Amplifier to use as a 2 channel subwoofer Amp.It supposedly puts out 500 RMS at 8 ohms in stereo mode. It has a gain sensitivity option of 1.4v, 26db and .77v. The way I understand it is that it should be matched somehow to the out put of my XMC-1.2. Am I correct in that understanding and what setting of the 3 should I be using?

Well what you’d be aiming for is that when you’re setting levels on all of your channels, the subs are in the same neighborhood as your other speakers. So you’re trying to match the sensitivity of your sub amp and sub, to your main amp and speakers. I’d start with 26 dB and see how close you are, if you have to adjust your subs more than 10 dB one way or the other then try a different setting (.77 should be louder at a lower setting than 1.4). This is all to say, follow the amps instructions for changing settings and use what works best.

Behringer makes great, cost-effective amps. I had one powering a single sub in bridged mode years ago and loved it. Great amp for the price.
