My wife is a few years older than I am, and although we have similar music taste hers is not nearly as diverse as mine. Plus since she did not spend the majority of the 1970's and early 80's in the military, instead working as a professional dancer and script writer in Hollywood, she did not have the joy of being turned on to punk and hardcore music in the San Francisco late-70's music scene like I did, nor did she work in commercial and non-commercial radio in the 80's. So while we both came of age listening to Kinks and Who and Hendrix and Led Zeppelin and Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell, her tastes have remained largely there while mine have, err, expanded greatly.
So I love it when she asks me about music that to her is "new." This morning she said she had watched some British TV programme set in Coventry, and that they had mentioned "2-tone" music. She asked me if I knew what that was. Oh, of course, said I. Would you like to hear some? So I fired up the office system and played a mix off my music server for her featuring bands like Madness and The Beat and The Specials and Bad Manners and The Selector. After an hour or so we both felt good and our happy feet were tired.
Highly recommended activity for all.

I learned something new today, 2-Tone Music. Wasn't aware that those bands were part of a previously-unknown-to-me genre.

2-tone sprung out of ska, and fused elements of punk and new wave with it, and was called "2-tone" at the time because the bands were famously multi-racial. But yea, a lot like ska.

“My Wife” and I LOVE film and watch something (or a part of) each night on the big system until one of us (or both) pass out….which rarely happens with a great one. Music for us is another story altogether…..as we are on different PLANETS 🪐. That is perfectly fine. I have a large Pandora “ library that plays constantly from the secondary Sonos system in the kitchen. I mix it up constantly so both can enjoy! This subject made me think about the ratio of music VS film from a collection standpoint and since around 2000 going forward (for many reasons other than lack of interest) my ratio is something like 200/1 ….as in 200 physical movies collected to (1) music disc. So….casual music by day and serious 🧐 film by night…..(things change!)

Ha! If I were to let those puppies go she would HURT me! I'd help her. This is a fellow who worked at Allison Acoustics preparing one of the only 100 IC20 cabinets for “driver population”. I found it in an overseas article (oddly enough) and after finding it at least a decade ago, somebody on the Allison forum who new him from working there identified him and shed the light! (that was fun)

Love it when the wife expresses curiosity about some newer musical avenues.
Obligatory post due to thread title. Scott
