Hello all, I've had my XPA Amplifier since March of 2020 but, only used it for about 12 months due to my already having an amp that I liked better. The XPA was purchased at the same time that I purchased the RMC-1L. Anyway, I've been keeping the XPA 5 for when I had a place to set a two channel system. The amp set in my upstairs loft area unplugged and covered with the original cover it came with. I bought a new preamp and turntable and decided to set it all up today. As soon as I pressed the amplifier's front power button, there was a pop. I checked wiring and everything is legit. Amplifier still powers on but it has no sound and no status lights. What could have caused this? I plugged it into an power conditioner to ensure that I was keeping it safe and this happens. I've seen troubleshooting questions where others reported still having status lights, mine never even came on and still do not illuminate. I am puzzled on how this could happen and hopefully it is just fuses. I left a message with Emotiva earlier. Hopping to hear something back by monday. Anyone have any idea of why this would happen and if it is indeed the fuses? Thanks for any input. I'm pissed but glad that I still have a warranty.

Power conditioners do not safeguard amplifiers. The best path for an amplifier is straight into the wall outlet moot point since you’ve got a short someplace.

You are correct about 'forming capacitors'. The big PS types are 'self healing' but do require regular use. Under those conditions, they should last decades. But I find it offputting that stored for 3 years TOPS, it may have a PS problem involving caps.
Out of warranty? if YES.....pull the top cover and look. Bulged / exploded or LEAKING capacitors....the big 'cans' ..... are a dead giveaway.
At the same time? Find and check ALL fuses. Malfuctinss don't happen alone, generally. IF an output device shorted, that modules fuse will aoso pop and maybe even have effects upstream in the power supply.....
Best Bet? Get a real technician to look at it. See if EMO will send you a Schematic, first. But I'm the curious sort, so I WOULD look inside for any obvious problems. And also? Use your NOSE. The smell of burned? distinctive.
Power conditioners MAY (depending on exact type) help guard against Some external problems......but that does not appear to be in play here....
