We have an Xmc-2 and previously the 1. With both we had Samsung tvs. Randomly when going from standby to on, there is no audio on the speakers. I have tried unplugging the TV power, switching HDMI inputs, unplugging HDMI from the XMC-2 and the only thing that works is power off from the switch on the back and back on.
I have the latest firmware on the XMC and the tv. We only have 2 inputs we are using and neither get audio when this occurs. 1 is cable box and 2 is ARC.

Not sure what could be causing that but sometimes if you go into setup and go into a speaker preset and play the levels' pink noise you may get audio back. Going into Levels resets the DSP I'm told.

Are you referring to audio from your TV speakers or from a surround sound system?
Because my XMC-1 was terrible with audio when coming from standby. I would have to switch inputs to get audio almost every time. Then I bought the XMC-2 and the problem pretty much went away. But when I updated to the 3.2 firmware the problem came back. Sometimes switching inputs even 4 or 5 times wouldn't bring the sound back and I would have to do a hard power cycle, (button on the back of the XMC) to get the audio back. After a bunch of trouble shooting with Emotiva and even trying going back to the 3.1 firmware I still have the issue, although it's gotten a little better. Now I seem to lose audio about 50% of the time when before it was pretty much every time.

Having similar issue with my XMC-2. Has been working fine for 6-10 months. But in the last couple of weeks have had to power cycle daily. Would love to have a fix for this.

The simple answer is no sound. Picture is great. Can switch channels (inputs) and video changes, but still no sound. Power down and restart XMC-2 and the sound returns. Shut down (standby) and sound may or may not return next time system is turned on.

Was able to find a work around by setting standby to "Low Power Mode" instead of "Video On". Takes longer to start up each time, but so far the sound has been there everytime.

That confirms that one of the "features" of the XMC-2 doesn't work as intended in your case. I have an intermittent similar problem. The only sources I have connected are an Nvidia Shield Pro and PS5. Every time I get an audio dropout or misplaced audio channel steering or kazoo metallic warbling and have to do a hard reset and reboot, I keep threatening to go to Low Power Standby by default, but lack of passthrough and the slow boot up time deter me.

I use Video Remains On and it works well for my connected equipment. I do get the Kazoo sound with Apple TV streaming every six to eight months or so. Backing out of the stream or changing audio formats usually works to fix the issue. That being said, you should at least give low power standby a test to see if you can tolerate it and if it fixes your issues...worth a shot, no?

This type of issue is driven by brand/model/firmware of display, as well as source type. I've mentioned this many times in the last three years. Emotiva firmware didn't cause this for me, nor fix it, it was my tv. It's a HDCP issue. I found a "secret" setting on my Sony panel to alleviate its propensity for not only having no audio upon power on while XMC-2 is in VRO, but also no video after having been "off" for some period of time. My current LG tv, which hides the setting I know can stop this from happening, was worse to deal with until recently with its firmware updates. Lately, all I need to do is to change inputs on the processor to shake the handshake loose from the tv, then switch back. What changed in the LG firmware to allow for this? dunno. Prior to recent LG firmware I had to disconnect power to both the tv and processor so the entire HDMI chain drained power, including the fiber optic HDMI cable.

Perhaps Emotiva should start a Thread addressing 'secret TV settings' that interfere with processor function. They could describe what steps to take to fix the problems so that Emotiva processors won't be blamed for the function and sound problems. Or, we could just stay in 'hole in the bucket' confusion. This course has it's purposes too...

We get the loss of audio periodically, too. It's most often triggered by the Disney+ app, but not exclusively. I'll have to try that levels trick from geebo. That would be quite the time saver.

I'm having an issue with my sound system. When I turn everything on, I don't get any sound until I hit "help" on my Harmony remote to redo all the commands and wait for the sound to come back. I'll check the video stand-by settings to see if that's the issue.

I can generally confirm what’s been suggested. I have always used LPS (Low Power Standby), and I’ve had relatively few problems using my RMC-1 day to day for many years now. However, a few weeks ago, I was doing some tests with VRO (Video Remains On), and forgot to switch back to LPS; for a week or so I didn’t notice much difference (not even that it booted faster, as I didn’t try to use it right away). Then during the second week I got the no audio issue several above have described, and shutdown problems after that. Then I remembered I was in VRO and switched back, no problems since. I know some use VRO without problems, and some ‘need’ it, but IMO, the suggestion to switch to LPS is a good one.

It's quite possible that it's due to having an older (2015) TV as I see mention of settings and workarounds for certain TV sets. Who knows. I personally would have no issue using LPS, but I would need to re-educate my wife and the family when they are here on the new process. That could produce some boos. The only thing that rears it's ugly head is the mechanical noise every few months that can either be solved by switching out of the stream or switching audio formates, or doing a rear switch boot. Had to do that two nights ago while watching Netflix on the Apple TV 4K.
