Hi Lounge,
Recently I posted about my stacked (3) PA-1s getting pretty warm/ almost hot, and I have separated them on the advice given. While I was doing that I noticed that my CMX-1 was pretty warm too. I have another one so I checked it and it’s room temperature with no real draw and barely warm when powering up several amps, a TV, Dac and other components, maybe 10, some just wall warts.
In comparison, the affected CMX-1 is hot at idle when feeding a nice Panamax power conditioner. When I use the manual off toggle on that unit, it cools right down to room temperature. The only other device is a SA-250, idle with trigger off. So this means that without any draw from other components, the Panamax must be interacting with the CMX-1, despite no draw, and unlike my other setup.
This seems strange to me, and although I don’t necessarily think it’s outright bad, it is a little concerning. Can anyone comment on this condition and perhaps explain what is going on?
Fyi, I wired it this way when I still had an ageing Plasma TV set, that I deduced was polluting my entire system but I got rid of transformer hum with the SA-250 outside of the power conditioner. My PA-1s were not affected interestingly, perhaps due to the class D architecture.
Many thanks.

As long as you’re having no problems with the components themselves just forget it and let it ride. If it concerns you that much just replace it. (relatively speaking they’re cheap.)

True, it’s not a big deal, it’s just interesting to me that plugging in the conditioner (Furman Pf15i or something) makes it apparently have to do some “work” and create heat when there isn’t any draw on the Furman (other than connected gear which is all switched off or in idle mode). Curiosity!
