Hi, i still have the old umc-1 surround processor and after being unused and sitting in it's box in a storage room for about 10 years i'm about to use it again. I have put it in a closed rack where only the back and front is open. The umc-1 unit does have ventilation holes on top but since it is only a processor and does not have a powered section to drive speakers i wonder if i can get away with it being in a rack. In other words does anyone know or still remember if the umc-1 gets warm? Does the newer processors get warm?

From my Idle Thread, the UMC-1 draws about 25 Watts while running, so it shouldn’t get too hot, but as I remember felt warm to the touch. With geebo ’s recommendation you would be fine. The new processors draw about 38 watts so should run a little warmer, but maybe the larger surface area distributes it better.

Ahhh the old UMC-1. I remember her fondly. She had some quirks but man did she sound great. Kinda like my Ex-girlfriend.
