Hi Anyone have any ideas to this problem ? I have these mono blocks - one of them is putting out lower volume than the other. To the point that everything sounds to the one side. I have eradicated all other possibilities and it is definitely the amplifier itself. My preamp has no balance control.so it's hard to live with. Anyone experience this or know what the problem might be? Thank you William

Are you using XLR or RCA connections?

It was my Nuetrik XLR connector, it was a tad loose in the amp. One wrap of electrical tape on the end of the connector snugged it up, volume returned.

I also had the issue of reduced volume in one channel and it was due to a faulty balanced cable.

Hi Thx for replies .I am using RCA I swapped all cables from left to right ..same amp still much lower volume.I put another amp in and problem resolves...I am hoping there is an attenuator inside on the input. Amp also makes a weird squelching Noise through the speakers when powering down - whilst the other one is a low thump Any comments welcome. Thx William

If you have the ability to use a balanced cable, try that. I had a problem with the RCA input on one of my XPA-1L amps and switching to the balanced cable resolved it.

In the mood to TEST something besides cables? (how'd that work out?) www.amazon.com/MG-Chemicals-403A-285G-Super-Spray/dp/B005DNQXI2?th=1Get some of THIS. When amp is playing at reduced level? Spray that stuff on the OUTPUT devices. A bad transistor will show up quickly.... Be careful not to ZAP yourself.... I JUST NOW looked at a back panel photo. I'd 'exercise' the balanced / single ended selector switch.....click it back and forth half a dozen times.... My stereo amps....one per speaker.....have input level controls. I once noticed one speaker was lower in level. I EXERCISED the 'pots and fixed. I now spin 'em about every couple months and no more problems...... a LITTLE bit of oxidation is all it takes.....

Could be a cold solder joint or flakey one, but usually that loses sound all together. If your preamplifier has XLR balanced output, worth a try there. Could be a thermal issue with an output transistor, hence Leonski's recommendation. Seems too soon for an output to leave though. Not impossible, Those are pretty beefy ON devices in there. You put in another amplifier so issue is in the XPA.
I don't remember if the XPA-1L used tiff like RCAs yet. If not the RCA connector may be suspect too. My XPA-2 was retrofit with Tiff like connections and runs great to this day. I still don't like that reduced output though. It could be an output or pre driver transistor unhappy maybe.
