Ok I’m looking for help on my next Emotiva purchase. I’m wondering we’re I might notice the most improvements. Either a new XPA amp or a new XDA DAC. I currently have a PT100 and BASSX A2 Bluesound node and modified CerwinVega! Speakers with Emotiva RS11 subwoofer. I really want a new amp but kinda think the new XDA DAC makes the most sense, because the XPA amp is getting somewhat long in the tooth and may be getting a update soon. I’m a sucker for wanting the newest model lol! Or maybe we will soon be seeing a new Class D amp from Emotiva that may have balanced connections that could be worth waiting for? It would be great to utilize the balanced connections in the XDA DAC if I buy it. But the DR version is a bit to expensive for me being in Canada with the current poor exchange rate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm in Canada as well and it's pretty much impossible to buy from south of the border now, $2500 USD through PayPal would be $3500 CAD I currently have a S.M.S.L DO400 DAC/Pre headed my way, $679 CAD on Amazon, the XDA-3 looks nice as well but is $699 USD which is over $1100 CAD for us to our door up here, I did see a guy on US AudioMart has a pair of DR-2's for sale for $1000 USD each Also take a look at a pair of Outlaw M2220 MonoblocksIf you are stuck between the XDA-3 or XPA-2 I would say XDA-3 would be my first upgrade and then an amp, but like mentioned many other options these days

I think you will like that SMSL DO400. I have a SMSL A0 200 in my garage which definitely hits above its weight class. But for my main system I would really like to keep everything Emotiva. I kinda like there looks and am a bit OCD for matching things up. Perhaps there will be a fall sale that might help.

Yes keeping things matching on the main setup is nice, myself I'm not that worried as my XMC-1 and Outlaw amp look sweet but it will cost you haha, the XDA-3 looks to be a good unit but much CAD $$$ for sure, but I would say the DAC/Pre first before an amp but all up to you of course.

Thanks for your advice! It sounds solid and pretty much confirms what I was thinking. I will get a XDA Gen3 DAC to replace my PT100. Then I will wait to see if Emotiva comes out with a newer model balanced amp to match. I’m sure the XPA amp and XDA DAC are a great combo, it just seems like such a waste to not use the balanced connections.

I keep wanting an XDA-3 but other choices keep making me pause on this decision. I am amazed no reviews have been posted on the XDA-3 from the YouTube Ites. Usually by now would have heard something. Is Audio Science Review measuring one too? You know the usual roll of things on DACs.

Yes I am also a bit surprised on the lac of reviews on the new DAC. I feel a good review can really make a product fly off the shelves. Cheap Audio man did a review on it and promised a follow up video and comparison test. I’m definitely looking forward to that one.
