We hung out until the very end…… And got the nostalgia email from the folks at Netflix today ( BOO-HOO). We joined in 2000 making that a 23 year run…… Doesn’t seem possible.
My going away presents were two of the Tom Cruise Mission impossible films on Blu-ray as I had updated to Blu-ray about three years ago I think. Not sure if I will ever have a physical disk subscription again, other than our collection, we just have to see how that goes… Don’t even know of anyone who’s doing that. No sleep loss over this either way of course they still do streaming and I do have two other streaming subscription alternatives.

I remember the first thing we ‘binged’ on Netflix disks … the ‘new’ BattleStar Galactica, sitting in the dark on a Sunday afternoon, episode after episode, yeah baby!

Been a Netflix subscriber since 2013... don't recall using their disk service; however, I recall a short lived usage of Redbox.

Those guys were pretty cool with that single scanning red eye, but in the reboot they looked like this … (don’t remember if they said “by your command”)

Hoping to see now that they are done with mailing DVDs and Blu-ray that those selections will be as plenty full streaming as they were with the physical discs.
The main problem I had with Netflix over the past year was receiving discs in the mail, where sometimes in the same week they would release that title as a streaming selection. If you didn’t pick up on it, you ended up with both which was quite a waste of time.

The only thing I remember about Battlestar Galactica (never saw the remake) was that Lorne Green gained the nickname “ the Moses of outer space”! I enjoyed them both, the original came right on the heels (and because) of Star Wars IV, and we were excited to have a weekly space adventure. 25 years later, the bar was higher, and I thought the reboot was great; more modern, more complex, more intelligent, and much better production.

So the Battlestar memories are now returning to me from this conversation!
Flashback to the 1970s and my impressions of the original series were that these guys were trying to copy Star Wars.(and not very well either) At that time I was up to my neck with music And didn’t spend much time with the television. That being said Battlestar Galactica simply never garnered much interest for myself and I lost track of it.
This was very much like what happened next with Star Trek after the original series ended up being such a fiscal success, in addition to the movies that The spinoff’s that came down the pike we’re enough to blow your head apart.

All true! The nostalgia and my youth make the original a small milestone in this young lads life. I did enjoy the reboot very much as well. It grew as I did but the OG will always have a special place in my memories.

I never heathat one but it makes sense! 🫣 I tried to find the exact quote… And perhaps there isn’t one but here is (at least) a quoted reference to it: “Lorne Greene in a cape. Baltar the born traitor. The ... The Galactica's journey evokes the Bible's Exodus, with Adama as a space age Moses.“ Fleeing the tyranny of the Cylons, of course!

I too had the disk service and got the nostalgia email. Definitely bummed as I will miss them; my library system has really grown their BR collection, but I’d still rather have both options.

Yeah, once the writing was on the wall, and they told us we could keep the disks we had at home without having to return them, I visited my queue and tried to time it so the movies that were here at the end would be worth keeping. That’s how I ended up with two mission. Impossible, Blu-ray. With that as a Headstart, maybe I’ll end up buying the ones that are missing who knows

“ In 2012 Netflix announced it was splitting the DVD portion into another company. The backlash they received was huge so on the front end they told customers they cancelled that idea and were keeping it all with Netflix. However, on the back end they still essentially broke it up into two separate companies. It's been that way ever since.”…..
I realized the other day that this information would be interesting to non-subscribers and subscribers alike. I know for myself (even as a subscriber) I was confused by the whole mess at first. Important to point out since my thread title is “RIP Netflix”, where in fact, the Netflix entity for streaming Exists and is thriving of course… The only thing that’s dead are the physical disks save the souvenirs lol.
