Hello, does anyone know how I can use an external test tone (REW) as described in the instructions? Am I doing something wrong? In my case, the external sound is played through all speakers and not just the selected one! Manual RMC-1 v11 page 56: "Note: If you select an external signal source for use with setting Levels, the source Input that is currently selected will be summed for left and right, then that signal will be routed individually to the channel you are currently adjusting"

Hello, I just want to know if I am doing something wrong or if the function described in the manual does not exist. Thanks

What is your source? I don't use Levels anymore. I use REW and do sweeps and adjust based on how each channel lines up.
If I use Levels: Test Tone: Off (External), I use a Mac mini connected via HDMI to the processor, then use REW's Generator and select C (Center channel) to make the noise that I want and hit Play, then when I go to each channel it plays the noise coming from Generator.

Hello, That's exactly the point. I use my PC with REW. I use an optical input on the RMC. With the function described, I could always use the same channel with the REW. I would then like to select the speakers to be measured with the respective channel in the level menu. I think this is exactly what the function described in the manual is intended for. Again, my question is whether the function works as described. But maybe it's just a bug! "In my case, the external sound is played through all speakers and not just the selected one"

I could always use the same channel with the REW. I would then like to select the speakers to be measured with the respective channel in the level menu. This is how mine works. Each channel I select in Levels makes sound, no other channels make sound, just one channel at a time. The active sound field before I go into levels is Surround. You might want to verify which sound field is active just before you enter Levels, this might have some effect, dunno.

Is an ASIO driver required?

Step as followings; 1) connect laptop to interface -> connect interface to analog1 or other Chanel as your prefer over RCA port. 2) Run REW or Smaart Solftware then set the configuration in software 3) Generate pink noise via REW or Smaart 4) Go to RMC1 remote then press Menu-> set input HDMI as current active by analog1 then go back the menu -> setting->preset1->Equalizer->select CH-> band-> select external pink noise 5) You can individual generate pink noise over the external source every CH by above step if do not understand please text to me WhatsApp (+66)901974898

Hello, vittayaThe click path is Menue-Setup-Speakers-Preset1-Levels-Test Tone-Off (External) I also tryed HDMI and analog input as external signal. When I select a channel, the sound continues to come from all speakers. Change sound field makes also no different. Thank you!

Then I think geebo is correct, and it must be something about using optical. Optical has limitations, this might be another one. Is there a reason for not using HDMI?

Is the ASIO4ALL driver required to be installed and selected to use REW this way? hmmmm, that bring up another thing to consider. I don't know, I'm not a PC guy these days. But I think this issue is due to another limitation of optical. Macs don't even have a direct way to use an optical cable anymore since it has limited usage, so only my oldest Mac computers have optical output capability.

/////I also tryed HDMI and analog input as external signal. When I select a channel, the sound continues to come from all speakers.////// Then I suggest just using REW sweeps and forget about using Levels. I haven't used Levels for adjusting my system in several years. Using sweeps is so much more accurate and it's so easy to see by how much any channel might need to be adjusted. But lately, for most of this year anyway, when I use Dirac, the only channel I need to adjust is the subwoofer channel. All the other channels are usually exactly correct!

I dont want to use levels too. I want to use the described function to easy do measurements with REW. How do you take measurements on a surround sound speaker? Do you plug the speaker cables around? What happens if you simply use your CD player with music as the external test tone, do you then only hear the music via the selected channel? My reference sound card in combination with REW can only output a right and/or left channel. When I create a test sweep in REW, I would like to run it separately for all my 7.1 speakers without having to reconnect any cables. The function described in the manual would be ideal for this. With the External test tone function, it shouldn't matter whether the sound comes via analog from the CD player or a REW sweep via toslink from the PC! Perhaps an Emotiva engineer will comment on this.
Please don't get me wrong, I don't want to discuss REW or drivers here, they have absolutely nothing to do with my problem. Thank you!

I'm happy to discuss how to use REW with you in this thread: ZOOMING In REW (and a little Dirac)This thread has a lot of info, links to "How To" videos, and Zoom recordings with some of our Lounge members.

That's a good hint, thanks.
I have FW 3.2 device with HDMI 9.3 board 2021. When I have time I will switch to FIRMWARE v3.12beta. Maybe it will work then!
