New member from the centex here (Killeen/Ft Cavazos (Hood)).
Used to love movies--projectionist and manager for the Kerasotes chain for 8 years back in late 70s to mid 80s.
Then I got married and the wife and I had different tastes---rapidly lost interest in movies or TV at all, and have
been much more into 2 channel quality hifi.
Just now after watching some of the world series on TV decided that I really should re-do the AV room which had 8 to 10 yr old or older equipment.
Other influence was I just recently, to complete my Hiromi music collection, got 3 of her SACDs--all in surround, and wanted that experience.
So recently got a new stand, a 65 in Samsung QOLED, Sony UDP800M2 player, large Klipsch center channel, some cheap Polk Atmos modules, and the Airmotiv T3+s and MR1.
Kept some Klipsch towers and ceiling speakers to use as surrounds and rear surrounds. And also two small SVS sealed subs. So a 7.2.4 set up. It is fantastic except the odd quirks with the MR1 (such as the weird noises when powering off).
The DSOTM atmos music disc is really a stellar experience. Just finished setting up last night as the T3s were the last thing to arrive. Some of the sound seemed as if it were coming from beyond the patio outside!
My viewing habits I think will go from like 10 hours a year to at least 10 hours a month.
The 2 channel rig is in a small dedicated 10X12 space and I run Sonusfaber Oly 1s and 2 Rythmik subs for speakers. I have a Audiophonics Class D amp, McIntosh MC75 tubed monoblocks, Marchand active crossover,
a McIntosh C2500 preamp, EAT turntable and phono preamp, Denafrips Venus II-12th DAC, Sonore ultra rendu streamer, and a Small Green Machine roon core. Also in this room I have a Vizio panel and run optical to the pre--
for youtube viewing of music such as Tokyo Groove Jyoshi and other mainly jazz bands that pique my interest. Oh I about forgot the pro style Otari MX55 reel to reel , and a Pioneer silver faced F series cassette deck, and a seldom used tuner as well. Run Tidal and Roon and vinyl (approaching 2,000) mainly.
