My father passed way unexpectedly and one of the last things he gave me was a UPA-7. I never even was able to hook it up while he was still here.
I got around to trying to hook it up and when I go to turn the unit on all the channels blink blue and after about 3 seconds channel 4 goes red and starts blinking. It does this with nothing connected to the unit at all.
The unit means more to me than just a amp and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what was wrong with it.
Thank you very much for your help I am going to try to contact Emotive tomorrow to.

First of all and most importantly. My condolences to you on the passing of your Father.
The UPA-7 is long since been discontinued and getting spares is challenging. I would recommend contacting Emotiva Support to attain the Schematic and parts lists if any to have a qualified technician investigate the causals of why the one channel goes into protection.
It could be a number reasons. A voltage not being satisfied so the logic faults that channel, or a short in the channel internally. Could be a number of things. A qualified tech with the proper equipment should be able to see why the amplifier goes into protection. High DC offset can cause this too.
If you have a multimeter and are up to checking this out, you can set your meter to measure DC, and it should read very low, compare with a channel that is functioning fine. You measure off the Speaker Terminals with nothing connected except power to the UPA-7.
If high DC offset is present it will be much higher than the other channel you compare with hence the protection mode that channel goes into.

Thank you for the response. I will be giving them a call today for sure.
Even if one channel is bad does that make all the other channels incapable of working?
The amp is 7 channels and would really only need to use 3.

Nevermind. They said they could fix it and now they said they do not service them anymore

The main issue is parts. The big one is the Micro Controller they can't get anymore. I don't think you need that. You probably could run it with just 3 channels as you need. As each amplifier blade is independent of the other. To be honest I have never run an amplifier with a fault in it. I still think it could be something reasonably simple. Especially since it is only one channel. You should still be able to get the schematics.
A channel going into protection usually means high DC offset, or an internal short that channel causing a high current draw. Or a voltage lacking in that channel. Any competent technician with the schematics should be able to determine the issue, even if he has the other channels running normally to compare with.
I don't think it is a great idea running an amplifier with a fault in it. It is possible to create more damage. The UPA-7 was a good amplifier, and one worth getting right again.

Nevermind. They said they could fix it and now they said they do not service them anymore See if they will provide the schematics. If so, you can take it to a local tech and see if he can repair. Worth a shot.

Thank you all I will reach out to them again! I called a few local places and they said they will not work on Emotiva Amps (no clue why).

I have heard this too. Support for any unique parts they may not be able to get. But things like resistors, Capacitors and so on are easy to get just about anywhere. Only the unique and proprietary parts may be difficult to source.

Hoping for the best. The amp means more than just an amp to me. Sure I could easily get a new one but then I would not be able to look at it knowing I gave up on the piece my father gave me.
