Just not sure where to post this, the issue is mainly about the laptop but involves the RMC-1L. I have used REW in the past but not for a while and not with a G3P. My setup includes an Epson projector. Laptop is a Surface Book 3.
The problem is that the laptop will not display or route audio to the processor. It is connected with HDMI via a USB/C-HDMI adaptor, either using the dock or direct, it doesn't matter. Here are the details of the problem:
1. The laptop recognises the processor. It thinks it is connected both for display and audio. But it doesn't output anything. RMC display says PCM 0.0, there is no sound.
2. If I plug the projector straight into the laptop it displays fine. No sound of course.
3. Setup works fine with an external monitor, including sound.
4. Crappy work Lenovo laptop (sans adaptor, it has an HDMI port) works fine, but I don't particularly want to use it for this.
Cables are fine, I use them for UHD streaming etc.
I have updated everything that it's possible to update, and read every troubleshooting idea from everywhere. Or so it seems. I am not a novice by any means but am out of ideas. No doubt there are smarter people here and/or those who have solved this problem before.
Thanks in advance.

Don't know anything about a Surface, but I connect my Mac mini to the RMC-1 via a USB-C to HDMI adapter, and do get sound and video. With the Mac I need to go into both the 'Display' and 'Sound' utilities to make sure they 'see' the RMC-1 and have it selected, as there are usually several choices (like USB for audio). So I can say that in my case USB-C to HDMI works, but I did have another adapter brand that either gave me no picture or no sound (though it works fine with my iPad). It sounds like you know the setup for a surface pretty well, but that's my input. Also as mentioned, I can use HDMI for video and USB for audio, which I do when I want to cause the triggers to switch the audio to my two channel system instead of the Home Theatre, don't know if that's an option for you? Edit: Certainly not a stupid question.

Here is something silly. Windows privacy settings. Some audio or video features are blocked due to default privacy settings.

Thanks everyone. I got the old Vertex2 out from under the house where it had been banished for being a switching anchor. It meant I could play with the EDID settings to see what was going on.
Turns out the adaptor I have isn't passing 4:4:4 video, works fine with 4:2:0 and since all I need is audio it suits me fine. Maybe one day I'll get a new usb adaptor, or work out how to change it in Windows.
