Hello to everyone,
Searching the internet, it seems a Coax connection is preferred over an Optical.
Due to my particular wiring setup, I must use a Optical connection for my Audiolab 6000N streamer..
Is the Optical inferior in any way compared to Coax?
Thanks Howie?

Optical also has the advantage of being immune to electrical noise being induced into the cable.

My reason is quite simple…… A digital coaxial connection is generally more robust than the optical. That being said sonically, I’ve never really been able to detect any difference. At a time before I had the Emotiva XMC1, the manufacturer of my previous processor suggested also to go for the digital coax connection. Wherever possible over optical. These days I’m almost total HDMI and have a little use for either of the other but you’ll be fine with your optical connection. No worries.

Is the Optical inferior in any way compared to Coax? Thanks Howie? My reason is quite simple…… A digital coaxial connection is generally more robust than the optical....I agree on the connector, my S/PDIF positives / negatives would go: CoaxPositives* More secure connection with quality RCA connectors, even better (locking) with BNC (though rare) * Cable not prone to damage from bends or general cable routing * Can be easily built by a DIYer for specific length, cable quality, connector, and look Negative* Potential to introduce a Potential (pun intended), you could create a ground loop * Potential for induced noise or RF pickup, unlikely with a digital signal. TOSLink / OpticalPositives* Immune to ground loops * Immune to induced noise or RF pickup * With quality fibre (glass), you can exceed the 10M length spec * You can tell it’s 'active' from the red light (don't watch the food cook!) * With mini-TOSLink connector, one jack can deliver analog or digital (AirPort Express) Negatives* Two more transducers (electrical to optical, optical to electrical) * Higher measurable jitter * Connector can be somewhat easily removed with a tug * If the cable is abused -- bent, crimped, crushed, etc -- the fibre can break * DIY possible, but requires specialized tools I don't see a lot of talk saying there's an audible difference between the two, nor have I experienced that.
