Hi Keith
I have an MC-700 that has performed flawlessly since I purchased it nearly 6 years ago
I finally got around to doing the latest firmware update, from 2020 , this past Sept 2023.
However now the unit will randomly get stuck immediately after turning on and won’t accept any serial or IR commands, nor can I power it down via the front panel button. The only way to reset it to try again is hard power cycling via the power cord.
This is a real bummer since my wife is not comfortable reaching behind to find the power cord when I’m out of town.
Thoughts ?

To be quite honest, while we never specifically suggested updating firmware on the MC-700, I am NOT aware of any stability issues with newer firmware. That means that I'm afraid it's more likely to be a power supply problem... and the timing is a coincidence. However... much as I hate to suggest it... if it really ALWAYS restarts OK after a power cycle... you could put it on a switched outlet. (The rear panel power switch is the same as unplugging the unit or simply switching off the mains power.) One final thing I would suggest is to look into what sources you have. There was one issue I know of where, if a Roku was plugged into the MC-700, AND THE ROKU TRIED TO DO AN UPDATE, it would hang the MC-700 on startup. The solution was to plug the Roku straight into your TV and let it do its update that way... You could then plug it back into the MC-700 and it would work fine... at least until time for the next update. The chance that this is a coincidence is 1 in 1,000,000.
The unit worked flawlessly, without a hiccup - for 6 years.
Immediately after the update it started locking up on the startup screen, showing the new software version, but then unable to move beyond that point and accept any commands.
Not able to put the unit on a switched outlet - I have all my home equipment powered though power conditioners and controlled via iPads that route serial commands to my equipment.
Possibly the firmware download is corrupted? Is it possible to redo the update to my firmware ?
If the upgrade was not required, is there a way to revert to the previous version ?

Why not redo the firmware update? I have done that with my XMC-2... I would check with Emotiva...Keith...if you can go back first before trying it....

I can certainly redo the update. If that’s a possibility I think I’m also going to get a new USB drive to ensure that I’ve covered all the bases.
Just want to get confirmation first from Keith that it’s OK to reload the firmware update

Hi Keith -
Any harm in loading the latest firmware for the MC-700, again, from a new USB ?

Hi Keith - Any harm in loading the latest firmware for the MC-700, again, from a new USB ? Sometimes Keith misses or takes awhile to read these posts...suggest sending him a PM, and/or calling Emotiva and asking for Tech Support.
