My most excellent audiophile friend was tasked with finding me an entry audiophile system for $3,000. He came up with a great solution based on the Emotiva Basx MR1L 9.2, a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 500's and the WIIM pro plus DAC. My speakers are 6 feet apart and 11 feet away from my listening postion. They are 12 inches off the wall. The Basx has fantastic power and the detail and warmth really make listening enjoyable. I suffer from a slight bit of tinnitus in my left ear, so I've found that low volume levels are incredibly detailed, so louder volumes are just as crisp but not really needed. So all in all I'm completely satisfied with my friends picks. I do have one question: This is an AB amp so should it always stay on? It seems to be sweeter after a 30 min warmup. I sometime get the volume clicks when increasing the sound. If I vary the volume up and down when using the remote the click disappears. ( it is not important to my listening ) In closing I think Emotiva has a great product, and I'm really happy with this Amp.

ONE possible exception ot boom's comment. I'd worry about 2 things. Power interruptions. Caused by weather or acts of man. In thunder / lightning prone areas? I'd pull the plug any time the weather turned BAD. Last nite around her, we had Atypical amounts of thunder, but I saw no signs of lightning. I don't know that I've ever had a lightning induced fail here on the coast. Out in Palm Springs? Another matter entirely. A GOOD surge protector is either installed as a Whole-House unit or in the form of outlet strips with MOV protection..... Man causes problems, too.....But that's unpredictable and difficult to guard against......so do NOT worry..... One other MINOR item? Get a Kill-A-Watt plug in meter and just check draw with amp ON.....Here in SoCal, we pay what may be the highest electric rates IN THE NATION so I'm always on guard to try to save power.
