I'm still using my old UMC1 in my home theater system which actually gets used very little. After setting inactive for many months I went to power up the system and I am getting nothing but garbled noise from the System, video is fine and no matter what input I use it's the same garbled static noise. Is it worth it to try and get it fixed or just bite the bullet and replace it with something else?

Sorry about your experience going on there. There are many possibilities to proceed here. You could just say the UMC-1 had served you well, and move on to something different. Lord knows there are many options to chose from.
You could try to get the UMC-1 fixed. Tricky part is that spares maybe long gone especially if it is DSP related. I don't even know if the firmware is available from Emotiva anymore. So firmware reflash might, or might not help.
If it has been sitting for a very very very long time with no use, other than the standby circuit some components may have gone bad. Without the UMC-1 on the bench and seeing if all the voltages are where they are supposed to be etc. everyone would be just guessing what it might be.
If it were me, I probably would move on and get a replacement Processor Preamplifier. Not sure what your budget might be. I know Emotiva of course has one starting with the MC-1. Of course they have others too. Also some may run an AVR with multi channel Pre Outs to external amplifiers like I do. I have an Anthem MRX-520 I just that.
I think with what is possible now, and what might be a good investment for the future, new will make sense. For instance as much as I loved my AVM-30 pre pro it was just too far out of date for my content I use today, but I will repurpose that elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the UMC has served me well and while I don't use the theater room as much as I should I should probably upgrade... I don't want to spend a lot and the current BasX MC1 looks like it would be a good replacement for the old UMC1 (now I wish I had used that 40% off card) does anyone know if the MC1 is the same dimensions as the UMC1? and if I could use my current rack ears?

You may qualify for the 25% upgrade for life program. I did and i had the UMC-200. Worth a check.

You may qualify for the 25% upgrade for life program. I did and i had the UMC-200. Worth a check. Emotiva canceled the UFL program two years ago He should call Emotiva. I’m pretty sure UFL didn’t end for buyers who qualified during the run of the program. I purchased a UMC-200 back when and I believe I still have UFL available to me. I had to buy a placeholder Sony unit when the UMC-200 died in Q3 2021 because Emotiva didn’t have a low-channel “replacement” model at that time. To this day I’ve been considering the MC-1, but I’m taking a long look at what the market is producing right now. I hope I’m not wrong about this. JP
