I never turn my amps off and just trigger them from my RMC. You don't need an ET-3. You can run a trigger cable from your XDA-3 to one of the DR-1's and another cable from that DR-1's trigger output to the other's trigger input. Any standard 1/8β mono plug cable should work fine.

The XDA-3 and DR-1's should have each came with a trigger cable

Thank you! This new equipment is on order, with expected delivery in one week. (XDA-3 & two XPA-DR1 Monoblock's) I'm working to understand some of technology that I am less familiar with ahead of time. I'm expecting to own the amps for a very long time. I was thinking about whether capacitors in the amp might last longer if powered off, or is keeping them warm the better long-term option? Remote control off/on to the amps will be out of view from the listening chair. Being that I am married to a female π°, I need to factor-in the appearance of trigger wiring across a fireplace mantle. (room decor appearance) She thinks that numerous wires are unattractive π. The Monoblock's will be near the speakers and a daisy chain trigger between the amps wire would add a wire nearly 30+ feet long across the fireplace mantle area. I'm also concerned whether an extra copper wire strapped between everything adds exposure to equipment to lightning, surges, or noise β‘π©οΈ π π€ I've been doing this diagonal listening thing. There is an item in the room that prevents my current corner listing chair from being centered in the room. I am equi-distant from the speakers and sub. The diagonal sound is quite nice. It seems to control room echo nicely. The Monoblock's will be near the speakers. The floor is concrete. Being that the Emotiva order is 1-week out... I can add things if needed with the free shipping. I can do cable management once everything is in place, I'm just trying to pre-plan a bit.

So the included trigger cable wonβt obviously work. But you have to run interconnect (XLR or unbalanced) so wouldnβt you just run the trigger cable along the same route?

View AttachmentCaps from a TIER 1 builder should go 20+ years. I have ELNA caps in my Kenwood amp from 40+ years ago......It is a KA7100 bought new. PRE 1980......... Caps which are unpowered for long periods represent a worst case scenario for such parts. they dry out. Such caps are 'self healing' in regular use. Look for the Nelson Pass article on them.......It's online Somewhere.... I'd also tend NOT to strap stuff together. Any differences in ground potential between gear MAY at that point start adding noise....or perhaps distortion. WHOLE HOUSE surge protection is a reasonable idea if in a lightning prone area. Like.....Florida? Or parts of Colorado where Tesla (the real guy) conducted broadcast power experiments in Colorado Springs (about 1900). MOV devices are CHEAP and used in many power strips, though Spark Gap devices are available and 'other'.....which escapes me right now...... Buy an OUTLET tester to make sure all your outlets are wired correctly. Cheap and should be in the kit. Some form of power conditioner MAY help. Mine includes an ISOLATION transformer of 400va, which is fine for all the lower power gear.

Great info. Thank you. Yes, I've had training in lightning protection and I am also concerned as you say. I was unsure of capacitor care.

I lived in Florida for several years. 2 years of HS than first 2 years of college. Summer was AWFUL with a near-daily (seemed that way) blast of rain / thunder / lightning. The power company? FPL? (Florida Power and Light) we called 'Florida Flicker and Flash'...... Due to frequent power outages. DO NOT EVER walk barefoot on a Terrazzo floor. Wonderful ground connection and if you touch something 'hot' you will not like it. Happened to ME. IOW? Evaluate your RISK for a lightning / nature caused Power Fail event. Here in SoCal, it is a very infrequent event. I use a conventional MOV based device at several places in my house. Summer is worst around here. Voltage can drop to 'Brown Out' level and I turn stuff off as it drops just below 114 to 115. I use a Kill-A-Watt meter for a real-time measure. Places in the SouthWest USA (like Arizona) get some real lightning events during some times of the year. I'd be Real proactive in surge protection and even have a whole-house system..... Now that I think about it? I wonder just how vulnerable on-roof Solar (photo voltaic) setups are with those multiple distributed inverters and other electronics. But you MAY want to look at this one.....BRICKWALL www.brickwall.com/pages/line-conditioners

One last thing on the original subject of 'trigger expansion'....
My PARASOUND amps have such circuitry. But is Unused in my application.
The amp will turn ON when it sees a signal from the pre.....I think there is a backpanel selector switch.
And a level sensitivty control for the preamp signal to turn on the amp......
Pre turns off and 30 seconds later, you hear the amp relays cycle....
