Hey Lounge,
I am a big fan of my PA-1s, I have five for a 5.1 setup. I have been reading a lot about various class d amps available and it seems to me that they are pretty expensive in comparison to the performance available in the PA-1s.
This got me thinking about using a mini x or equivalent for the rears, thus saving the “wear” on those two amps, and having them available in the future if a replacement is needed. Maybe these amps don’t really wear down with on off cycles like class AB amps so that’s not really an issue? If stored properly am I effectively preserving them? Should I just use them anyway and view a breakdown as a future buying opportunity? It’s just hard for me to think it gets much better these are so good!
I would love to hear some feedback as I am also testing an SMSL AO200mkii, which is a pretty nice little 2 channel amp with balanced inputs. I am not sure if it digitizes all signals though as it has some dsp features with a direct mode but can’t find anything there. Doesn’t really matter on rears I think, and the form factor is about the same as a PA-1.
Makes me think of the multi channel versions which were never made!

I have one that I'd sell if someone were to be interested. Great amp but I replaced it with a Purifi monoblock from Nord for my center channel. I got the impression at AXPONA last year that multichannel Class D could be imminent.

Some receivers have large boards supporting multiple amp channels from a single PS...... www.irf.com/product-info/audio/classdtutorial606.pdfJust look at 'cover' photo at link.....This is an IR product which I suspect has been taken over by INFINEON, who bought the whole shootin' match a couple years ago..... At one point, I thought I saw reference to a 6 channel board intended for HT applications..

I suspect EMO got a great deal on the Last of that amp, did a build out, sold for a decent price and walked away..... The base amp inside is a B&O module....The ASC300, IIRC... The folks at ASR loved this little amp....

Interesting thread. I too have 5 x PA-1's (I may have got the last 5 actually because I ordered 7 and was told the last 2 were "no longer available"). I also really like them for 5.1 duty, music and movies, they really pop, very detailed (or perhaps they allow my XMC-2 to shine better than my previous 'lazy" Rotel 200w x 5 Class A/B amp?). I was annoyed that I couldn't get any more to power my 4 x Atmos speakers, so I bought 2 x stereo XTZ Edge A2-300 amps which are the same B&O ice modules.
Anyway, the upgrade bug has bit and I just ordered a 3ch Purifi from Audiophonics from France and a 6ch Hypex NC252MP from Buckeye! If these new babies deliver, the PA-1's will sadly go on the market. There is nothing at all wrong with them, I've just got upgradeitits. And yes, they are much more expensive than the PA-1's were.
Oh and the guys at SNR REALLY like both of these amps.

I know this is an older thread, but something just popped into my brain cell.
I would not let amps simply 'sit' and do nothing, in a drawer or closet.
Sell what you don't need and make a garage system with a pair of 'em......
Skulk around swap meets and garage sales until you find a reasonable speaker....

I use them to power my Stealth 8's after stripping out the internal amp board from them as Emotiva won't service them anymore. I confess, I have 13 PA-1's. Could always do with more :-). Let me know if you are selling them.
