My xmc-1 won't power on anymore. Blue light comes on but won't go further. Local shop can't fix it because there are no schematics to be found (I'm overseas) . I have 2 amps [xpa 2 and 3] and I don't want a $3500 Emotiva again that might die and can't be fixed. What else has anyone connected that sounds and works good?

Works good and sounds good are not often found in the same product without spending multiple times more. Storm and Trinnov are not perfect and cost a bunch, but they've got most things worked out very well.
But, try this on your XMC-1.
Switch off the rear power switch and wait about two minutes. Press and HOLD the front panel Power Button, and, switch on the rear power switch, and, keep holding the power button until the front panel populates with self-tests, which should take less than a half minute.
Is this successful or not?

Emotiva may provide schematics if you call them.

Anything at any price can break. Better have a brand that can be supported locally.

Any processor you buy is a crap shoot after 10 years no matter who builds the thing…..But while you have it the pain is reduced by knowing it’s purchased and supported where you live. IMHO. I’ve also got an XMC and so far so good but the writing is on the wall unless you’ve been sleeping at staff meetings. Most of the bad posts I’ve read are about people being up a creek without a paddle because help is 10000 miles away. …And there is no crystal ball even when you think you’ve got it nailed. For all the promises of modular longevity with the XMC, its longevity is no better than most anything else out there.

I connected an HDMI cable but nothing is showing on TV... Am I supposed to push a button, go through a menu, or is it only diagnostic info? Dan

The info only appears on the front panel display. It's purely a diagnostic that will show modules that either pass or fail. There are tests that you can invoke and these are chosen by arrowing down and then right to begin the selected test. This is meant for headless usage, no external display.

Is there a master reset option in there? Three down, right and enter or something like that?

Is there a master reset option in there? Three down, right and enter or something like that? No. It's only a non-invasive diagnostic menu. No fixes are built-in, and no failsafe either.

I went shopping after this thread got started to get up the speed on what’s out there.
The first thing I noticed was when you search for processors you end up with more receivers instead of processors.
The choices are no better than they’ve been and getting worse. I sure as hell. Hope mine doesn’t blow up anytime soon because the task of replacing it will not be a fun one.

Sorry that you had a failure with your unit. I agree with pretty much everything said here. Best of luck finding something in your hunt that will sound as amazing as an Emotiva processor without taking out a 2nd loan on the house. Even their warranty now for 5 years is better than most consumer electronic devices and brands! Even with some of the quirks and issues reported and fixed, we live in a very complicated world with connectivity and interoperability issues augmented under the guise of security. Like they said there is really no brand immune. I've had many people over the years listen to my Emotiva systems and are completely blown away by the sound and question their decisions with the "name brand" purchases they made. They usually say something along the lines of "I've spent thousands and mine doesn't sound nearly as good as yours" Then they follow up quickly by "How much did all this cost you?"
Not that this help you much but I can safely say that I have only ever sent back 2 pieces of equipment to Emotiva for repair and replacement. I had a noisy leaking capacitor on my XPA-5 Gen 1 that happened after a really terrible thunderstorm in the area that took out several transformers near by and caused a massive power issue at my house while I was using it. I can also attest that other things in my house didn't survive nearly as well and actually cost me money to replace as there was no 5 year warranty nor who can fix most things these days. Electronics repair is not common any more and most just swap out entire boards or pieces when possible. I also had a new DOA UMC-1 that arrived with something wrong on outputs that was quickly addressed by the good folks at Emotiva.
It's not fun being down and not able to enjoy your music and or movies. Hopefully you are able to find a good solution and get back to enjoyment! I'd be curious how this works out for you and your decision should you feel like updating here.

Agreed....I've thought about this...if I was not on the upgrade path towards the next gen Emotiva processor at a discount, I would likely not buy a new processor due to cost. I would either purchase a well reviewed receiver and use Emotiva outboard amps, or would just buy an Emotiva receiver. Hopefully I won't need to make that decision.

I agree about the schematic. It would be a shame to give up on the XMC-1 because of a bad capacitor or something. Sounds like something in the power supply not allowing it to complete POST. As long as it is not any of the proprietary controllers, it could very well be something simple. Always a chance.

All, Thanks for the input. I've started a repair ticket but have not received anything past their automated reply. I originally only had the XSP-1 and an XPA-2 before I found some more old Polks and needed to upgrade stuff. Was wondering if I should ditch the XLR cables between the XSP-1 and the XPA-2 and connect both amps to the XSP-1 with RCA cables and a y-splitter. Sucks having two speakers and an amp not connected to anything. Does anyone know if that would be a bad idea?

Nothing out there that won't be similar dollars unless you go a receiver with pre-outs. Maybe consider a vacation to the states (or another country with an Emo repair center) and get it repaired for similar or less total cost than buying another unit.
