Looking to retire and move to a new home by year's end. The home will have an "open concept" floor plan. The family room where the Atmos system will reside will likely have 11 foot ceilings. There should be no issue with front speaker and subwoofer placement. I also purchased four Emotiva Vaulta speakers for in ceiling. The system will be a 5.1.4. I think I understand where the Vaultas should be placed in relation to the MLP. What I'm, not sure about are the rear surrounds. I would very much like to keep my Emotiva ERD-1 speakers. From what I have read on-line, they should work fine in an Atmos setup if configured as Bi-Pole. Is this correct? Also, where would the best mounting location be? Depending on home design, I may be able to mount them on the side walls, or possibly back...not sure yet. Thoughts? Not sure if the attachment will work.... Thanks Attachments:home plan.webp (64.66 KB)

I would mount the ERD's on the rear wall behind the couch. There are pillars one on each side of the sliding glass door. There may or may not be a void between the studs (they are load bearing) to run the wires down, however, if you are not opposed to having some minor drywall repair done you will be able to run the speaker wire there no problem. I won't add too much on the placement of the atmos speakers as there are plenty of guides out there and you can even place them differently if you so choose. -Derrick

The house will be brand new...it hasn't been built. This is the plan my wife likes and there can be changes made to the layout. So, the wiring will be run with no drywall up! I'm planning on buying the wiring and having the builder put it in. Also, the plan is to put the TV on the wall the corner fireplace is on. The couch will be facing the TV. Should have mentioned that earlier. The couch will be an L shaped reclining sectional. Looking at getting a 77" LG OLED.

You could have them suspended from the ceiling with mounts or build out the wall from the dining room in the direction of the kitchen to match the distance of the right most sliding glass door pilar. That would give you a nice symmetrical v shaped pattern in the rear. I also can see the ERD's being used on the corners think (1st and 3rd base) then use in-ceiling speakers for the rears as a 7.1.2 or .4 I added some super basic visuals for the ERD's as triangles, and the rear speakers and possibly Atmos. Thanks for the visual. So, I’m thinking more traditionally. The TV to the right of the fireplace…..far enough over so the front speakers will fit. The MLP facing the TV. The Vaulta ceiling speakers set up as Dolby recommends, two in front….two behind the couch. The ERDs should fit on the right and left wall….I think there will be enough room to mount them.
Thanks for thinking through this with me…helpful.
