Hello - asking for some advice on setup of XMC-2 for ‘next step’ when I expand from current two sub setup to four subs. The system is almost 100% movies.
Current setup : 7.2.4 Atmos + tactical.
Definitive Tech BP8080ST mains + CS8080 center + SR9080 surrounds, Polk OM3 atmos, and (1) Rythmik FV15HP for nearfield LFE and a really old Outlaw LFM-1 for mains, Dayton BST-1 for tactical.
It’s a dedicated basement room, open on one side, 20’ long x 14’ wide x 9’ tall.
Future:
Add another Rythmik FV15HP in the rear, and replace the Outlaw LFM-1 with two Rythmik E15’s.
I have an XMC-2 without Dirac, so trying to rock the REW filter method. Have REW on laptop plus UMIK-1.
Currently I have crossovers set at 80Hz for all except for mains which are set at 50Hz based on measured MLP responses- dip from sub is offset by mains. It sounds ‘good’ as is, but it’s really uneven at lower frequencies; it’s the best I could get it as is. But before I spent an entire weekend running frequency sweeps, can I get a recommendation on setup?
For example, should I switch off the built in main subs and use only the E15s? or should I run all four subs as LFE?
Having two (sub and LFE) outputs as different speaker sets is really nice because I can run the LFE slightly hot for the wow factor… and I have the tactical transducers are connected to LFE only. The downside is the filter in the XMC-2 goes to all sub outputs- so I need another way to adjust the signal (like mini-DSP).
I really like the idea of running two LFE subs in nearfield behind the MLP … the system already shakes the house/floor above so bad when I have cranked up. Dune and Oppenheimer were, well, insane. I’m not looking for more power/spl, I need it to be better controlled/smoother frequency response. I can tune (somewhat) with the filter controls on the Rythmik subs, rather than the XMC-2, but I haven’t really tried to ‘dial it in’ yet.
I keep changing my mind on what would work best based on HT setups, but very few people are running an XMC-2 (or RMC) on YouTube.
Appreciate it and thanks in advance. I have setup a few home theater systems, but I have done very little ‘tuning’.
