See the subject. It started to do that few weeks ago after years of service. It is like I press the menu button, the menu appears on the screen, but without actually pressing anything. Sometimes it disappears right after it appears, other times it just stays there until I manually close it. First, it happened rarely, but during the past weeks it become more frequent and it is very annoying. Any idea what to do with it? Is the schematic available for this old device somewhere? Thank you.

The most common reason for something like this to happen is something called "IR flooding". The control codes sent by the remote control are actually relatively simple... Therefore sometimes one device will "accidentally" respond to similar codes from the remote control that goes with another device.... It is also not uncommon for some source of "noise" in the infrared light spectrum used by the remote control to sometimes cause a device to respond. So, for example, sunlight, or the light from a CFL bulb, or the screen of a plasma or LED TV, shining on the front panel of the unit... (It pretty well has to be shining on the front panel of the unit where the remote control sensor is located.) This can appear more or less random... However, if it's happening, you may notice that the odd behavior only happens when a certain lamp is on, or at a certain time of day, or when a certain lamp is partially dimmed. You can also test for it pretty easily by temporarily blocking the front of the unit (either turn it around or drape a folded towel over the front panel). (There are other sorts of faults that can cause this... but this is far and away the most common one.) See the subject. It started to do that few weeks ago after years of service. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunatelly, the problem still happens after I covered the device, so I think that means it has a HW problem.
